Welcome to my painting log for my pendraken projects in 2014! It started off with Goblins but who knows where it'll end up!

As you may have read in a thread that was posted not too long ago, ( http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=9975.0) myself and my partner in crime Craig have embarked on a nostalgic trip down fantasy lane where we will use the large scale battle rules from Mantic Games - Kings of War.

I have assembled my Night Goblin Horde and arranged them on their bases so that I may paint them 'en masse. (This is my new favourite way to paint, and I even multi base my 28mm's)

I've went for scenic bases with a ruined building, columns and tree stumps to add a bit of character on the 120x60 'horde' bases, and ill be posting updates as I paint each unit!

I hope you find these posts interesting, and would gladly hear any feedback, good or bad!

Cheers

fred.

Excellent - they already look good ranked up like that. The ruins on the bases are a nice touch (well on the back one its more than a touch!!)

Good luck painting them - the hordes look very close together to get a brush in!

I tend to paint my open order (e.g. WWII) on their bases, but closer order stuff on painting sticks.

Are the catapults Pendraken? I have a few of these as was wanting some more, and had thought the ones I've got were Kallistra.

What Fred said! They look very nicely posed - and those ruins are a Really nice touch. Good idea on the dice frames, I keep thinking I should go that route :)

It looks similar in parts to my 15mm Fantasy one:

Cheers guys, yeah I went overboard probably on the monolithic columns haha, but it looks good!

I don't find it too much trouble as ive had loads of practice painting pikeman on the one big base for flodden, i just want to do it quick as i can and find this works best for me!

The catapults are from Kallistra big 10s range, impulse buy at carronade, but they fit in nicely!

Hi Ric - these look excellent!  I think you have indeed had more difficulty than I did, fitting them all on the bases.  The one advantage of the undead - no fat people!

Will look forward to more pics as and when you get the chance!

Progress report: Well thus far I've got everything undercoated, which was a disaster that I've posted (moaned) about on my blog, after a quick touch up with a brush I've begun base coating everything, completing my three 40-goblin hordes with just a wash and a bit of highlighting to finish them off, ive also base coated my Trolls and catapults and made a start on the wolf riders, im hoping to get everything at least base coated before the end of the day, with a view to completing them tomorrow!

Looking good so far

I have given up on all those expensive primer sprays and just use a cheapo Grey Primer from Halfords  works just as well in my opinion
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Yeah? Usually I find the Army Painter ones to be fantastic, but the PSC one was just awful, perhaps I got a bad batch, but i won't be using their stuff again!

Interesting...I bought the AP varnish and hated it...got lots of whitening on the models...Have gone back to my old and trusted Humbrol flat acrylic varnish, never have any problems no matter what the weather conditions

Excellent progress!  The grey basecoat looks great, spray-can problems aside!  Far better-looking than straight black, to see what's going on.
