Hi all,

Viewing painted figs on the forum has got me wanting a bit of everything lately, I find myself drawn to new periods (if only for a fleeting moment) when someone posts up their recently painted armies, so I thought why not have a little experiment?

I'm putting in an order soon and aside from the AWI I'm getting, I'd like your recommendations.
I'll order the first 5 recommendations, the only rule is : it has to be infantry.
I'd like to make a foray into a mix of periods and enjoy researching uniforms so I guess this is as good a way as any, so, if you were me and could only buy one pack - what would it be?

Cheers

One pack and one pack only?

ARL 7 : Late Roman Infantry - Armoured, attacking, mixed weapons

Because:

- they're beautiful figures
- it's a fascinating period with lots of information available
- the armies are more varied and interesting than the earlier Roman ones
- it's possibly the only ancient army where we know what the shield designs were for individual units
- Pendraken don't make Sumerians, which would be my current top choice ... you're not the only one wanting a bit of everything :)

With 2014 coming up a BEF army would be just the ticket. Very good range of infantry figures and it's about to be expanded.

ARL7 is good, and AWI are good too.

How about EL4 - Elizabethan Pike

I would recommend the 1000pt Late Roman Army Pack  ;)
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

If you haven't bought any yet, how about some of the new acw sculpts?

for example ACW 3 - union infantry firing

Maybe not too much research involved but they are great and have nice detail:

FPW20 - Guard voltiguers
EL4 - Elizabethan pike
ACW3 - union inf firing

One left chaps, very happy with the choices so far.

A couple of other packs / ranges to look at - the republican romans (say ARR2) , or the LoA figures, perhaps LOA10 or 12

Fred above mentioned it, as you have too I guess I'll stick that LOA10 in.

So, that's it, 5 packs to be ordered.
Once I've painted them all up I'll do a blog competition to give away one of the packs (once I've relocated my blog password) =)

Thanks for the input everyone!  :-bd I'm going to enjoy painting them.

Cheers
