First WWII Ships and a Shout out.

Just a couple of photos of my first ships for use with the new 'Nimitz' WWII naval rules. And a big shout out to Martin (Slugbalancer) who very kindly sent me a load of 1/3000 scale ships that he was not using for free when he saw my earlier posts about the rules.

Spent last night prepping some Navwar RFA models (tankers and replenishment ships). I'm mad enough to take the time to drill out holes to add brass masts if required as well as having to open out the locating holes for the separately molded kingposts with a 1mm drillbit. Slow pace to get everything lined up so only finished 3, rest are later in the week.

However the results do look pretty good and feel its worth the effort, and I didn't draw any blood!

I'm using some 3mm thick MDF that I had laying around for bases. Most are 2cm wide (1.5 for destroyers) and length depends on class, BB's and BC's 9cm, heavy cruisers 8cm, light cruisers 7cm, destroyers 4 or 5cms depending on size.

I saw 3mm and through "That's really thick for ships that size.

As the pictures show, having the ship ID on the side is a very nice bonus.
