Proxying 1940 Greek Army with Pendraken miniatures

Hi all,

I was tinkering with the idea of making a 10mm army of 1940 Greeks for BKC IV and other rulesets. I was wondering if anyone had proxied the Greek army with Pendraken products, and if so, which they had used. I've seen advice that Italians can be used to proxy Greeks in a pinch, since their uniforms were fairly similar, and the Greeks commandeered a lot of Italian materiel (in particular some L3/35s, plus they had Fiat trucks for transport even before the start of the war).

I was curious though if anyone had proxied the Greeks using either the Romanian or Polish lines. The Polish line has some beautiful sculpts, and from my very limited research Polish and Greek uniforms don't seem too dissimilar at the 10mm 'squint' scale (other than some details such as the Greek uniform had puttees while the Polish didn't seem to). The Polish line is attractive too because it has AT guns, mortars, MMGs, field guns and cavalry which at basic glance seem like decent proxies for the Greek models. However, I figured I'd ask the board first what their thoughts were.

cheers!

Welcome Kypraios :-h

From my limited knowledge of both armies that seems a fairly reasonable approach :)

For some of the heavier weapons if there are more suitable weapons in other ranges Leon will be quite happy to provide them with Polish or other crews (at a small but very reasonable additional charge)

Welcome, Kypraios, to a forum that is by turns warm, welcoming, well read, well informed and ..... well weird!

One of the joys of 10mm gaming is that many "conversons" can be achieved with nothing but a brush and the right paint.

I work on the principle that "close enough is good enough." If everyone round the table knows what the figure/ model represents then what's the problem? :)

I have, for example, used suitably painted British paratroopers and US GIs as WW2 Russians. No one complained, most didn't notice!

Unless you play people who are real sticklers for authenticity it shouldn't be a problem.

If you intend to play solo and your opponent objects to your choice of figures you have bigger problems than which figures to use!  ;D ;D ;D

Whatever you choose to use, I hope you have a great deal of fun and much success!

Welcome Kypraios.

I would go along with what Ithoriel has said. paint conversions are very Do-able in this scale, and Leon will supply non standard crews for artillery at a small premium.

Thanks all for the responses and the warm welcome! As many of you said, i will be playing a mix of solo and with some friends who are very much not sticklers, so sounds like any of these options would work well.

Cheers!

I believe the new release of the Italian 65mm gun will also be suitable for the Greek army
