I set up a game to give song of blades and heroes another go. (am thinking about buying flashing steel so wanted to 'refresh' my memory on the original one)

Simple scenario, the ruin in the middle contains a relic, wich has to be taken and carried of the field.

Game pits my vampire warband against the 'men of averon', my human warband.

Started off in opposite corners, but the cavalry quickly closed the distance...

While the rest of the undead were in no hurry.

But they quickly closed the gap in the following rounds, only to suffer major casualties in the first turns of combat

But while dispatching the undead, nobody took note of the vampire sneaking to the relic...

The men finish of the last enemy of the first wave

While the heroes finish of the ghost, a brave man tries to stop the vampire

Killing the ghost forces a morale check, wich makes some models crumble

Meanwhile the champion of the men challenges the vampire. He gets put down immediately

The loss of one of their leaders pushes the men back in doubt...

With a zombie in pursuit...

The men try to fight their way through the zombies to get to the fleeing vampire...

...trying to pin him down

Some lucky blows are landed. (vampire is Q3+ and combat 5 and is though)

The men wear the vampire down untill he is at Q 6+

And some lucky bowman finally kills him (again).

VeryEnjoyable game, en victory to the men of Averon!!!

Looks like something fishy with the pictures, will try to fix in the morning!

Hi Peter,
I messed around with the images a bit. I don't know much about HTML and the few tricks I know didn't work. I finally did a direct copy of the image at imgur (not the URL) and it brought the imgur image parameter with it:
"https://i.imgur.com/i541Eyk_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium";

I dropped that string into the image tags here and at least got this:

Figured this would give you a starting point in the morning ( I think there must be a way to fix the strings you have but above my pay grade :) )
I picked this picture because I particularly like your dead guys.  :)  :-bd

Looks great, Peter....But the images have come out on the rather large side.  ;)

Yeah strange stuff, normally it works from the start, but imgur seems to dislike pictures from my phone.

Very enjoyable game, and victory to the men of Averon!!!

I must say, looking back at the game, SOBH is just good fun. The more I play it, the more I like it. Just the morale rules annoy me a bit, but not so much that they make the game less enjoyable.

It does shine more when you start to memorise the special rules though. Having to look up special rules really slows down a game!

Cracking looking game, much fun. I must print and assemble the ruin - I downloaded it after your nice piccies convinced me :)

Song specials - I try not to give a model more than two,  and no more than 4-5 across a band in total. Otherwise they eithe get forgotten or people demand to spend half thengamenlficking thru the rule book :/

Well, I must say that I stick to my personalities when it comes to special rules. The rest is limited to the shooter, standard and musician rules.

The undead here had a few more but not much. Slow for the zombies, flying for the ghost and poison for the ghouls. All easy to remember!

Yeah, I might give a personality a couple-three, but mooks get one, maybe two - and mostly similar. So maybe two shooters in a band, but everyone might have Savage , and the personality gets Hero as well sort of thing.

fred.

Special rules are always a fine balance - too few and it's a bit vanilla, too many and no-one remembers them.

We try to have special rules written as positives therefore if you forget the rule it penalises your side. This is especially true in games like SoBH where you can pick traits for troops such it is ta d for your opponent to be aware of all the specials you might have in play.

Yeah too much is hard to keep track of. In SOBH I think it evens put a bit though, because a lot of specials means more expensive characters, so less to keep track of.  The real problem for me is playing lots of rule sets with their own special rules, wich means I start mixing things up  ;D

I do believe the SOBH family I good at that, as you can play a lot of different settings with that rules engine!
