About time I showed something 10mm and Pendraken on this forum. So, using some Mongols as well, here's some Warband stuff.

No idea what they'll represent as I still haven't read my copy of the rules yet. As for the different die frame sizes ... They match the differing sizes of the figures [that's my excuse  ]

We'll see how long it takes me to paint them now 



[The Mongols are actually based for Lion Rampant - the die represent the 6 figures in the unit. For infantry, I'd use two dice - one on each back corner - to represent the 12 figures in the unit.]

Apologies, it wasn't a criticism about the two differing heights. Obviously, as you've stated, historical and fantasy are made to differing practices. I'm happy to use both together - or against. 

Anyway, Those Barbarians are big tough brutes, needing bison to carry them into battle. The Mongol-types, being smaller in stature, can afford the luxury of using steppe ponies which are easier to breed and train. Hence why the Barbarians are mostly foot armies and the Steppes Tribes are mostly mounted.

It's just worth pointing out to any new chums on the forum that the historical and fantasy scales are slightly different, in case there's any confusion.

Wow, those look great and were done really quickly. I guess doing the basing first is a big timesaver. I'm certainly finding it a faff to do after painting.
I think the differing dice frames add gravitas to the important units

@Mostyn: They took something like 5 hours to paint [including a break to let the shading wash dry].

This information may help people:

I can't paint bases after the figures are done, as I mess up the finished figures - so I do the bases first.
With the bases being large it allowed me to space out the figures, which helps to paint them in-situ. That's a time saver.
I painted everything a dark brown as the undercoat, the basing just being contrasting layers brushed over it roughly, the figures skin colour being quite a close match.
Then I just blocked in the colours. Covered all the figures in [Games Workshop] Agrax Earthshade shading wash. Finished off just picking out some details like the bright red part of the shields, silver on the weapons, gold on the weapons, and then went over the grey loincloths and brown capes again.
Another big time saver is that I painted using paints taken straight from the pots - and I transfer Vallejo paints into old jam jars, so I don't have to mess about with dropper bottles.

Thanks for the breakdown. It's definitely a timesaver as I could probably paint the figures in 5 hours (aided by the fact they'd be seperate) but the basing is very time consuming. And demoralising when the brush goes astray and flocks a carefully painted miniature!

I bought these at Hammerhead and have based them 60x30 to match Bodvoc's existing armies.

There was, originally, 7mm dice frames on these bases, but a mix-up by me when ordering more frames saw me purchase 5mm instead. Luckily, the 5mm frames work better on the smaller bases, so I've gone with them - I liked the look of the 5mm sitting inside the ruins of the older 7mm frames, hence the skirted frames.



Building ruins for Frostgrave saw my spirits tumble, so I took a break and painted up a couple of bases of troops for my Samurai Apes "Warband" army.



'Defensive' Samurai Apes with bows, behind 'bamboo palisade'. I didn't fancy painting the bamboo green, like I've done in the past.



Water Elementals. Painted to look like they're shooting up from a body of flowing water. No, I didn't use any pure white highlights - when seen in the flesh they look good enough as is.



Due to the bamboo palisades taking up space on the base, I only used 5 bow-apes on the example shown. The other bases I have either feature 10 bows, or 9 naginata/katana, in two ranks.
