Neil's 10mm adventure

[Norm]

Filler paste with some acrylic colour added, this fills the base and levels out the individual base of each figure.

I then dirty wash that (ink) and drybrush a highlight (OR PVA it all and add sand and then dirty wash when dry and dry brush) - whichever you choose, the final touch is flock added sparingly, mainly at points where the figure base might still be showing and in any area that you think will help to naturalise the base.

For 10mm I favour the very fine turfs (like super ground down flock) from Woodland scenics with a tad of whatever you fancy added in.

- should be a decent picture of some of my basing on Pendraken Ottomans - simple sand on PVA with a bit of static grass and some Javis ballast for contrast.

These days I like a "three part" basing, usually sand and static grass or flock, then rock/shale or clump foliage for contrast depending on terrain type and scale.

Latest Developments

So a little progress has been made:

BUF Militia test basing using sand (Javis Desert Sand and Stone Mix - JS 75)



Just waiting for it to dry, so I can PVA and try out the new Dark Meadow Green heavy scatter mix.

Alongside that have base coated six sticks of The Bishop of Salisbury's Militia in VMC Khaki Grey. Trying John Cook's technique that he outlined at http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,12847.msg179792.html#msg179792



Assuming the basing technique works out, then these will get based up the same way once they are finished.

Finished up the basing. Did a second squad just to see if I could repeat the process.



Before applying the PVA and scatter, I used Coat d'arms Light Brown Super Wash to make the sand darker. Gives it a more muddy quality. Which seems more appropriate for troops destined to be fighting over the Wiltshire Country side.

Like the Fascist one - the mix is a better contrast when there's a bit less of it!

The left hand base with less scatter on it is definitely better.
