Konigsberg Gun

The gun is a 3D print from Butler's. Stated as 12mm, but fits well with 10mm. Humans and animals are Pendraken, with a little conversion work.

Martin, that looks absolutely grand! Love the limber and crew as well. I have always been intrigued with some of the Butler's 3D prints (I was looking at their 15mm OT-64 SKOT when I was thinking of painting up armies for the Uganda/Tanzania War. What did you think of the print quality?

The gun model came out great.  I am not a big fan of 3d print, but sometimes you find a rare treat especially with equipment where digital sculpting style has less impact.  I found some Wurst guns for 10mm and excited to paint those as something different.

Ooh, you've just reminded me of them. I need some AMX13 VTT models in 15mm, they have some, so I'm going to order one to have a look - I'll post my findings on here.

With Butler 3D you can pay extra and order in 3d printed resin, which is an excellent medium for guns especially. If you pay extra again on request, they'll do them at proper 10mm 1/160 scale, which is a flat £10 per item, so it's only really worth doing if you're after 10 or more models of one item.

Also, check out Battlefield 3D, they do many Cold War vehicles in 15mm, print quality and range of subjects now is better than plastic kits or anything in metal.

Streetgang - I bought the gun model about 3 years ago, so the following comments are scale specific and refer to the 'standard PLA' and not the 'high resolution resin' now available, as alluded to by Sultanbev.

I found the print detail a little rough and wispy in places, especially between the wheel spokes. Faint print lines could be seen in some surfaces, but were hardly noticeable after painting. Care was needed during clean-up preparation as the medium seemed brittle, and didn't take a craft knife or file well.

From this example only, I'd prefer metal castings or plastic kits, for their smoother surfaces. However, for a tabletop piece I am very happy with the end result and would consider 3d prints as an option. New resin products look better, but cost more. Butler's certainly has a large catalogue, providing many models/variants not covered by other manufacturers.

After leaving this forum on the 11th, I went and created an account with Butler's Print Models. I ordered 2x AMX-VCI in 15mm high resolution (resin). They arrived today, 16th.

I haven't unboxed, yet. When I have, I'll create a new thread showing the results.


Battlefield3D didn't make the APCs that I was after, just the light tank the VTT was based upon.
