Title: Bluesky
Post by: flamingpig0 on 01 December 2024, 10:24:54 AM
Just a note that there is now a large and active wargames community on Bluesky.

I have joined.
I have not figured the mechanics of communities, groups etc etc.

It is refreshingly free of trolls at present.
Will give it time.

It would seem that want a liberal echo chamber, which is what they lost with the changes in Twitter.  I understand the administration for BLUESKY are getting each day as many complaints as they previously received each month; the liberal migrants from Twitter are trying to get rid of posters with different views that interfere with their liberal echo chamber.

However, this in danger of spilling over into politics.

Want I want to know is what TFL are posting there, or on Twitter or anywhere else.  Is it the same or different content.  I have the impression that there are differences in the information conveyed.

I was on Twitter and like many people found that my account was being throttled due to not having views that  were deemed acceptable by Musk's minions. In my experience the site wasn't being run by someone who could reasonably describe themselves as a " free speech absolutist". I suspect that the  increase in complaints might be connected to the large  number of people who have joined Bluesky over the last month and the resulting greater use of the site.

I tend to use social media mainly for following  my hobbies and I have found  Bluesky a lot more useful and positive than X has been in recent times. Oh, and to go back to the original comment it does have a large active wargaming community which I don't think X has anymore.

Perhaps sadly TFL don't have a being  broadly analogous to the  Mouth of Sauron so the only way you could find out what they are saying on Bluesky would be to join it.

I've always avoided 'social media'

I'm not social and don't trust the media

Not yet.

It seem pretty well configured to serve hobby interest groups.

Time will tell whether it is any more proof against troll invasions and enshittification than other sites.

My experience of this liberal echo chamber is:

I can show interest in live cricket chat.
I then get posts about live cricket chat.

I don't have to plough through fifteen "They're eating the cats and dogs" or "Batters are using bowler's bathrooms" posts for every cricket post I see.

The lardies posted advance notice of a new supplement for Strength and Honour -coming next week.

I was looking for you on it.

So far it seems a positive site-  much like Twitter before it was overrun by people  who believe that the Moon landings were fake and that  Michelle Obama is a man.

I blew up my Facebook in 2014, sacked Twitter in October 2024, I see a pattern beginning to develop, I probably shouldn't bother.... :-X

Ditto, longer ago in both cases.

I shall most likely pass.

I avoided X (Twitter), mainly for the reasons that were mocked by a comedian in that the emphasis was clearly on "Twit".

I'm only on Facebook because many years ago the bright sparks on the rugby club's tour committee thought it would be a good move to put the tour arrangements on Facebook and several members, like me, needed to join to find out what the dickens was going on.  This role seems to be adequately filled by a Whatsapp group; the club runs a full members group and a Vets group, I'm a member of both, although my playing days are long past.

I log into Facebook every 3 months or so to clear notifications and reassure people I'm not dead.
