Hi All

Went past my local pet shop and they were having a clearance. Picked up two ships for the equivalent of 9 quid. They were Aqua One brand and they look like a good match for 10mm.

There was one listed as a Fishing Boat but which strikes me as a tug at 22 x 7 x 8cm and another listed as a Passenger ship at 33 x 6 x 9cm. The latter is more modern and may have to have some work done for my purposes.

Cheers

(...) they look like a good match for 10mm(...)

Any pics with 10mm minis next to the ships ? ( I'd like to see it)
Thank you

Great find Vic.  I have scratch build most of my ships -  Does anyone know if these are imported into the UK?

I said this before on the forum (cue yawns) ...There is a market out there for 1/150- 1/148 N gauge small ships .  I have looked at the few and expensive  Railway N gauge offerings and a few resin ships - lighters, generic gunboats, MTBs and small "passenger" type  craft would do very well.

The Pendraken Vietnam patrol boat is a very fine model.  That's the standard you want.   I am hoping to game the Mad Mike's campaign in the Congo (with Falklands range) and am scouring toyshops for small plastic motor boats that would fit to 10mm

Actually Aqua One is also a UK firm (ships made in China though) http://www.aquaone.co.uk/homepage_uk.php. They might be able to tell you if available and stockists.

Not a great picture, attached below.

Have been rethinking the tug, actually looks like 1/125 ,about half way between 10mm and 15mm  :-\. Maybe I'll leave off any identifying guns, etc and leave it to work with both scales  :).

I don't want to stifle your campaign at birth, but I agree with you. I'd love to see some more Pendraken water craft. A good ships boat would be useful for gaming about 200 years or more.

Vic, forgot to ask - how heavy are they? Some years ago I picked up a 1/300 (near enough) fish tank cargo ship- but it was really heavy. - part of the "sit on the bottom" requirement.  This weight can make postage prohibitive.

They have limited stockists in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

They are reasonably light, they are hollow cast and the castings are about 5-7mm thick. Seem to be cast from normal Polyurethane Resin, still I'll where a mask and work outside when I'm cutting bits off  :). I've found a card model barge at http://www.papershipwright.co.uk/coaling-barge/ to go with the tug. Might still do some drastic surgery yet on the tug and will definitely move the passenger ship back in time. Will lose what looks like a helipad at least  :).

Maybe I can make it look like the Panay  :D :-

Thanks GOM, the X lighter in this collection is close to 1/150 scale.  I have an unfinished scratch build intended for VBCW.
