Testing new pike and shot rules. The Poles gave the Cossacks a paddywacking, but paid for their victory. Note the rash decision to charge well-armoured, superbly mounted, dragoon-supported noble hussars with medium cavalry which cost the Ukrainians their C-in-C in the first few minutes. Also Cossacks who can't afford muskets standing and waiting in Bugarov village - a wise decision, since it wasn't attacked.

The hussars went through the bulk of the Cossack foot like a dose of salts, but the drabs got a bit overconfident, and a minute after this shot was taken they were no longer among the living.

The pancerni (my wife's painting, btw) did sterling service too. Sadly, the Cossack pikemen, who might have made quite a difference to the Polish horse, seemed disinclined to join the fun.

On the other flank, the rajtar held off a rather badly-coordinated crossing attempt until the Cossacks gave up. The battlewaggons fell foul of the Polish artillery (uniformed Cossack pikes by the little lady too).

Hello FierceKitty

Intriguing mention of new Pike and Shot rules, any other clues?  :-\

The Cossack CiC got all he deserved taking his men out from the safety of their Tabor and fighting unusually. Of course charging hussars with his cavalry was just an act of suicide, him being filled with remorse for uncharacteristic behaviour  :D :D.

Normally the Cossacks would have hunkered behind their tabor and only come out to play if forced by artillery or determined assault. Of course it all depends on your scenario. There was a battle where the Poles had a moving tabor, trying to escape a superior force but this was unusual enough that it was commented on by several contemporaries.

Now that my interest has been piqued again, I must get my history books out and also my old masters to see what I have.

Cheers

They're called Ten More Sons! and are an extension of my crusades rules. Drop me your email and I'll send you a copy if you'd like a look. I must say, I've sweated blood over them; it's NOT a simple era!

Cool report and great to see this period get some attention.

IM sent - would love to see a copy of the rules too ;)
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

By Mexicans do you mean Aztecs? Or do you really want sombreros?
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I think the Magnificent Seven may work better in 28mm as a skirmish game. But the hosts of the Triple Alliance, now.... (They didn't call themselves Aztecs, btw)
