Guys..

Time to help a computer illiterate again. (If poss).

I've noticed over the past couple of weeks or so.....

50% of the time when I log on to the net via 'Firefox'......Firefox seems to 'hold on to' the last page I've looked at (Normally this forum...Ahem :-[).....So that after I disconnect.....And when I then re-connect...I go straight back to the last page I looked at previously....NOT the opening Firefox page.
(I hope I'm making sense here !)
Not really much of a problem, but I wondered if any of you were finding the same thing happening ?

I tried to find my way round Firefox's support page .....But gave up, as usual.

I HAVE tried using Google Chrome....But found that was even slower than Firefox...So I uninstalled that.

Any ideas....Or are there some bugs in the 'new and improved' version of Firefox.

Cheers - Phil

Not sure on that one?  If you've closed all your Firefox windows before shutting down the computer, it should restart from scratch on your usual homepage?  The only time I've seen it reopen a previous window, is when you've shut down the computer without closing all of your Firefox windows, and it will then restart your previous 'Session' for you.

Phil, if you go to Tools (top of the Firefox page) then select Options from the list that comes up then open the General tab (still with me?) there's a box called Startup in the top half of the General tab. Does it say When Firefox Starts: "Show my Home Page"? If not change it to that and you should find yourself wherever you selected (Pendraken Forum clearly :) ). Setting it to the Top Totty thread might not be the best option though :-)

If that doesn't fix it shout, I'm sure one of us can sort out what's happening

All I've done in the past when finishing a 'session'.....whatever I happen to be looking at....this forum....the BBC's weather page.....a new CD on Amazon... is go to the top right hand corner...click on the 'X' and this takes me back to the desktop.

Then.....Disconnect from my server.
Never had to do anything else to 'clear' everything.....and then start from scratch the next time.....That's always worked previously.

I have noticed that perhaps 5% (?) when I log back on to the net that I get a message from Firefox along the lines of "Well....This is embarrassing....we haven't cleared your tabs....would you like to restore or clear ? ....(They can leave my tabs alone...The perverts !  ;))

'I'....I was with you all the way up to the word "Phil"..... ;) ;D
I'll have a look though and see what it says.....The 'weird' thing is that it's not happening EVERY time.
Perhaps I'm being monitored  :P because I'm doing some very modern soldiers (in a completely different scale) and I keep going and looking up what various small arms look like.
MI5 and the CIA probably think I'm an arms dealer !
Ooooh.....Must go...There are a lot of smartly dressed young men, wearing hearing aids and dark glasses knocking rather forcibly at the back door.

Sounds like a setting to me, although I use Google Chrome.
In Google Chrome, under the browser "Settings" menu is a heading "On Start Up" giving the following choices:
- Open the New Tab page
- Continue where I left off
- Open a specific page or set of pages
Sounds like you've gone into  the second choice. Firefox probably won't be exactly the same but might be worth a try.

Cheers, Colin

That sounds like your version of Firefox isn't shutting itself down properly?  You could try going to the Mozilla website and downloading the latest version, see if that helps?

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ (scroll down to English (British) and hit the Windows download button)

Oooh, interesting!  Minibits is looking to do something like that in 28mm, I hope we won't be competing!

Sure I'm up to date on FF....They just download the latest version when they feel like it.... I don't seem to have any say in that matter....and like I say....It's not been every time. (Strangely it's almost stopped doing it now, after two weeks playing silly B's.) ;)

Hello

May be you're using some "add ons" in you firefox. some are well known to cause trouble. You should also uncheck everything that may keep FF running ( in windows, I recall there's a mozilla service ?  I'm not sure, I'm using linux )
for example :

"Perhaps I'm being monitored   :P because I'm doing some very modern soldiers"

I'm running a game server ( with my blogs, some Operation Flashpoint games when we played, and other mini-wargames I wrote )  We played Ambush Alley and wrote AARs. Last year my server was attacked several times.. Mainly for the modern content. I found it was an Otan web site !  ;D
So you're right ! we're monitored !  ;)

Thanks for the tips Guys....
I didn't think I was going to have to investigate the suggestions.
For a least 24 hours Firefox was behaving perfectly.
Now....."Something" seems to be misbehaving once every 4 times or so now......I suppose that's an improvement.
I could 'understand' more easily if it happened every single time....But it doesn't. ~X(
Strange !! 8-}

Oddly mine started doing the same thing this morning and it wasn't to do with my previous "settings" suggestion. I've fixed it, but you might not have the same problem.
On my browser, the Tab (which there is one of for each site you have open) along the top of the window normally appears about 2" wide and has a cross in the corner to close it off. Somehow this had been reduced in width and no cross. I found it had become "pinned" and this meant it kept doing what you said.
To unpin it, right-click on the tab and select unpin.
Worth a try.  :-\

Thanks Albie.
Something else to investigate ! ;) ;D
