Too late! Just bought lots on early war for centenary of the "Home for Christmas" phase. Will probably do it for our display game for Salute next year

Bernie, what rules are you using for this? I thought about starting early war as well and progressing through the years.

I'll be getting Great War Spearhead 2 shortly , as the first run is at the printers
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

New minis for WWI are good. I guess I need to finish up my rules for this period.  :D

Only been working on them for the past 6 years using the Pendraken's range for units in the army lists.  :-[

But my biggest problem was my decision to separate the army list by front and year! Lots of changes in both weapons and tactics during the war. And different troops used on different fronts. Some armies have to be used as an allied force not a full army like the Greek armies and those in the Albanian area.  :P

Looking forward to more releases.

Hi Shecky

We already do a set for the trench warfare horror "Playing Leapfrog", but for the guns of August/Home by Christmas/Home before Leaves Fall a far more C19th approach we have deemed appropriate - still working on them as the paint goes on the figures, but to give full justice we are looking at a corps a side as this would give full play to the massive amount of artillery available and the problems of lines of march and wide frontages. Will let you know as we work on the system and as the brigades get completed. We have bought enough for a couple of German corps, British Corps, French Corps, Belgian Div etc. Scaling to get to the level I visualise is 1 base = 1 coy, battery or squadron with an emphasis on doctrine but also spirit as some of the Reserve and Belgian units could be very brittle. Also need some form of hidden movement which is a shame to hide such lovely figures as the early WWI range!

All the best
Bernie

Thanks Bernie.
I've thought that the early war was closer to "To the Last Gaiter Button" than to "Playing Leap Frog". I thought about taking some of the concepts of TTLGB and applying it to the early war period accounting for machine guns and better artillery. I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with.

I've made a note of the ww1 middle east poses to replace (from an earlier thread) :D

Pack mules are another one to plan, also british /german teams carrying the vickers/maxim forward :-* already on the list are the lewis gun teams advancing and prone firing with their support.

Is there a planned release date for these ?

And as there is a Lewis gun team in the planned list, what is the existing BP3 LMG pack armed with?

Another question about the existing WWI british - what is BP13 the 4.2" howitzer? The 4.5" seems to have be the standard medium gun, but not sure what the 4.2 represents.
