Hi Chad,

Many thanks for posting that link to what I assume must be the first book co-authored by two members of the Pendraken Forum (Holdfast and Mollinary)!   I would love to say the cheque is in the post, but I fear, to paraphrase Blackadder,  that the profits, like Baldrick's brains, would not cover a small water biscuit!  This is very much a labour of love, and we are delighted to have got this rather neglected but fascinating war into a series which concentrates on the SYW, Napoleonic and ACW heavyweights. The cover may actually look a little bit different when finally released, but the content will, I hope,  provide a bit of stimulation to all those 10mm aficionados out there.  Pendraken have a superb range for this period, and I think  the photos in the book will showcase this to the maximum.  For those of you with no shame, the authors will be available at SALUTE to sign copies at the Ken Trotman stand!

Glad to make a small contribution to your wallet. Although my primary interest is the Western Theatre of the war, I am interested in the 1866 campaign as a whole and am also interested in the rules you are using for the book.

Best wishes

We might have to invest in a signed copy methinks!

Hi Chad,

I agree the Western campaign is a fascinating one, and I have always had a soft spot for the Hanoverian army.  I find something intensely moving about the final disappearance of this long lasting German state, and the move into exile of its blind king.  Also, the Bavarian performance was nowhere near as poor as people seem to believe, and I was lucky enough to drive around their battlefields with Bruce Weigle a few years ago,  before he published his 1866 rules.  I have become increasingly convinced that the RF&F rules adapt very well to 1866, and might even be stretched effectively to 1870.   The book sets out the basic changes recommended, and the key issues involved in the decisions, but we will be happy to discuss in more detail on this forum for those not in the grips of terminal boredom!

I look forward to the book arriving. DaveL and I were part of the
game testing group for both '1866' and '1859' for
Bruce.

Hi

Can you put a copy aside for me - will try and get to you both at somepoint before the 10am kick-off

Perhaps Leon could display his copy on Pendraken stand as I will on our game stand to remind gamers of this war and 10mm gaming

Specifically to Salute:
Under the auspices of the most benevolent Continental Wars Society we will be putting on the Nachod Game which features in the book, with four vignettes scattered around the board to show the critical moments of the battle. Having walked the ground twice in 2012 (which has barely changed in 150 years) we have a pretty good understanding of the key features, and our representation is therefore quite accurate. Big hills are represented by big hills! Defiles are rather narrow. Battalions are represented by 12x4 figure stands, allowing the different tactical formations to be visibly different from one another.
On the timing, Richard Brown of Ken Trotman was insistent that we produce the book to his timetable in order to launch it at Salute, and as we all know, he is not a man to be trifled with. The book is in the scriptorium so we have every expectation that it will burst upon the community on 20th April. As Mollinary explains the cover will look marginally different, not least because he insisted on the photo of himself being retouched to show his best side.
Beyond that we aspire to move on to Koniggratz and to devote a subsequent volume to that battle, probably aiming to produce it at Salute in 2015.
For the ease of all of you we had hoped that it would be possible for the CWS stand, the Pendraken stand and the Ken Trotman stand to all be fairly close to one another, and the organisers have certainly achieved that at one level since they are all well within Essex. The good news that the distance around all three stands is marginally less than the distance walked in the average round of golf.

Looking forward to seeing this game and reading the book. Is Peter Jackson to direct the film?  :D
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Just a rumour, although I agree that Salute will offer enough beards to populate the next remake of the Hobbit opening sequence.

ML and Bernie,

I am assured that Richard Brown of Ken Trotman Ltd, the publisher, will have plenty of copies to satisfy the masses. That said, if you were to drop him a line/e-mail I am sure he would be happy to reserve you a copy.  Bernie, I also hope I will get some time off for good behaviour to come and see your 1870-71 Republican period game.  Great to have two 10mm mid nineteenth century games at one show. Is this another first?

Will this be available through anyone other than Caliver?
