That's the kind of thinking that has deprived me of my opportunity to live in the Alpha Centauri system. 

Well Zefram Cochrane seems to have lived in AC system for a while....he even met up with some humaniods with pointed ears (not elves!).

It all seems a bit illogical to me though

Elves are tricksey, so they might be elves. Hieronymus Bosch, who likely visited AC (or originated there) visually documents other possibilities. You will note that Zefram Cochrane is an anagram of Hieronymus Bosch in Welsh (at least in Techno's Southern dialect).
