Rather one-sided it was. British army had to come on in column, mastermind in command sends infantry at head of column, most of Abyssinian army is in position to nutcracker them as they come on. Some people don't get the idea of a mobile cavalry vanguard, I fear.
Which said, the battle was over so fast that we had a rematch with sides reversed. I sent a lot of horse (six elements each English and Bengal lancers, six elements Scots Greys, who I know weren’t in the Abyssinia campaign but they’re too pretty to leave out) too far ahead and got them swamped and overrun by the Africans. But at least my infantry and guns were ready for the next phase. Don’t invade Abyssinia lightly, folks.
Picture - I hope it's attached - shews most of Yohannis' army, barring the Galla light horse, one more unit each of rifles and warband, and what was left of the artillery after a clumsy irregular gunner blew up half the battery.

Nowhere much to hide on that terrain, FK. Anything in column is going to struggle.  :(

Those columns had nothing to fear; the Brits had no guns on the field yet. Closing before the redcoats were deployed was worth the risk.

Sudden death at times whatever one does; sometimes an impi gets a terrifying roll for movement and they're all over the regulars, or one discharge of a big battery seems to clear a whole flank away. But that gives it a certain Alan Quartermain excitement, lets the rabbits sometimes win, and means a game needn't take too long. Of course, we've stuck in many modifiers by now. Victories for both natives and invaders. Haven't tried out the Egyptians or Boers yet.

Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.

Look at the way they're all hastily showing that they got it the first time without prompting. (Dives behind parapet)
