Ok, I am painting up my Austrians to face my French using Lasalle rules. I painted 2 bttns of the Germans in helmets as Germans, white pants. I also painted 1 large bttn of the Hungarians in white pants to represent Germans in shakos. Is there any real discernible difference in the miniatures as to why the Hungarians cant stand in for Germans?

One had gaiters, the other didnt, so just slop the paint on the legs a bit thicker to cover up the line.

Yup, Gordon's right. the "German" regiments wore white breeches with black gaiters; the Hungarians wore the traditional skin-tight leggings that buttoned at the ankle. In light blue with yellow/black Hungarian knots and piping - if your hand/eye co-ordination is up to it. A paint job, in other words.  ;)
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.
