Hey all!

Did anyone try out the acw ruleset severed union? (from gordon and hague site)

How does it play out? Does it give the sense of a big battle or just moderate?

And in case someone needs to have a looksie :p :

Just downloaded - seems simple enough at first glance...might try to find some time to bung dice at this in the next couple of days to see how it plays out...it does look pretty 'vanilla' though - so I'll be looking to see if it 'feels' sufficiently like the ACW.

Yeah, main reason it speaks to me is that everything has the same base size, so must be simple to convert to other base sizes methinks :p

It looks 'ok' from first sight, but this is a new period for me (rulewise) so i don't know what to look for in acw rules. It is however the first time that i see 'free rules that come with minis' that are longer than a few pages though  :-\

Just found out there is also a quick start ruleset for these:

I've had these rules for some time and keep meaning to set up a game, but never seem to get round to it! There aren't many fast play rules but quite a good set is published by Gettysburg Soldiers.... I've had a read of many rule sets including Fire and Fury, Regimental FnF, JRIII and Guns at Gettysburg to name but a few, but they tend not to be suited to a quick evening game.

It all really depends on what you are looking for, accuracy or playability. Black Powder is quite good but you have to sort out troop attributes and I don't find it very good for historical scenarios.

Personally I'll  probably use Severed Union until the new Sam Mustafa 'Longstreet' rules come out next year. I really enjoy playing WSS using the Maurice ruleset!

Well i can't set up a game, as i don't have the armies for it. :o

I just wanted to save on the budget a bit and was looking for a free ruleset. This one looked pretty decent, but i don't think you can really judge a set if you haven't played it. Maybe i'll make some counters and have a go.

Check the following out to make quick counters for trial games:

No real expense involved and a great way to try a period before commiting to lovely lead figures :).

Yeah i have used that site already to try out impetus! Excellent stuff.

If only we were not hooked on metal we could game just about everything :p
