Can someone please suggest some suitable Vallejo paint colours for horses? - I'm using some basic browns and they look ok, but not great on my 10mm cavalry â€" thanks

I think I used VAL921 English Uniform for the basic brown. Sometimes modify this with a bit of 982 Cavalry Brown for a redder/richer colour or a light colour like Stone Grey.
VAL889 USA Olive Drab for dark bits. Black (modified?) may be better.

VAL847 Dark Sand with a brown wash to varying degrees for paler horses
and the same Dark Sand for "blond" manes and tails occasionally on both pale and darker horses.

Also done some in white, with a wash.

I also painted some mules recently which seem to have a lot of grey so I painted some VAL990 Light Grey with a brown wash.

The brown wash was either the English Uniform or a brown ink. I can't remember.

It might be a start, and colours you may well already have.

I tend to use 4-5 different colours in cavalry units; my standard technique is spray-black undercoat followed by a dark brown overbrush...that's colour one  ;)

Then I'll paint some (Game Color):
- Black
- Beasty Brown
- Dark Fleshtone
- Cold Grey
- Leather Brown or Earth

I'll then highlight by adding Bonewhite to each of those base colours...

Here as an example:
