Hi

See link for pictures of ECW battles at the recent Legion show in East Kent

We did three linked battles in the day: Royalist victory folowed by two defeats - last one terminal

About 90% of the figures were Pendraken with a smattering of Minifigs & Irregular Miniatures to give a bit more variety for the cavalry and baggage.

Looks like that was great fun Bernie ! :-bd

Brilliant Bernie!  I hope this means that there will be another Realtime Wargames rules set published shortly?

Great table, Bernie. And I like the idea of having the standards mounted separately. Gives a great deal of flexibility. Definitely qualifies as a Cunning Plan.  8)

Hi

The set "This war Without an Enemy" will be out next year with campaign system and battlefield rules for 10mm

Hi Bernie

Could you give us a heads-up on the basing for This War Without an Enemy as I have a large number of Pendraken ECW figures in need of organising, and I'd like to get ahead of the game prior to the rules release next year at Salute.

I can see from your pictures the number of figures on each type of base but the base sizes you use would be helpful

Many thanks

Hi Andy

Can only give the broadest guidance as it depends upon other rule sets you use and your pocket and patience in painting the figures.

We came down to the visual impact that we wanted the forces to look like the woodcuts of the period - bulky units which in reality were probably only 6 - 8 deep for infantry and 4-6 for cavalry. Now you could get away with just a line of bases with figures 3 deep but we decided to double this depth to give the impression of bulk.  With this in mind each foot base represents 60 foot, 30 troopers/forlorn hope or 2 guns.

Bases used are mainly 30mm x 30mm with 12 pike (4 ranks of 3) or 8 shot (3,2,3) or 4 horse in 1 rank
We use the excellent little metal discs from "Peter Pig" to base the flag bearers which denote the quality of the unit. Can also use the nice mdf bases from Pendraken

40mm circular bases for Dragoons with 4 dragoons in a random pose, Also the same size base with 4 dismounted dragoons/forlorn hope and the same for a horseholder and 3-4 horses. Just helps denote these different troop types

Heavy Art with big gun and 4 crew on 35 x 35mm base. Field gun with gun and 3 crew on 30 x 30mm base. Galloper/Battalion gun with 2 crew on 25 x 25mm base

CinC's on large 50mm circular base with a number of dismounted/mounted figures. Wing commanders on 30mm base with fewer figures. Again the number of flags on the base denotes his ability

Well hope this helps and good painting, basing and gaming a fascinating gaming period

Thank you so much for this. As you know I'm a bit of a Real Time Wargames nut!! And a great fan of your rules and campaign systems.

The look you are going for is just the thing that makes it so appealing. And makes the most of 10mm as a scale and the great Pendraken figures in particular. Of course much depends on the £ and time required to produce such a visual spectacle but you've inspired me to attempt something on a similar scale. Fewer, larger regiments work better for this period for me.

I have checked my inventory of Pendraken figures and have enough for several regiments of foot and several regiments of horse per side. Enough to be getting on with. I look forward to seeing more pictures as you playtest the rules and, of course, the rules themselves at Salute.

Leon, you can expect another ECW order from me in the New Year!!! Consider me addicted to another range!

Cheers
