I often wonder what some of these illustrations would have looked like when they were first produced.
If they look this good now....what would they have looked like when they were first done ? Amazing stuff.

Yes, some have been damaged and others are in good condition. Others have the faces deliberately smudged or have a line 'cutting off' the heads of images of people and animals.

That would be a massive project for an art historian......Digitally 'repair' them all.
Maybe someone's doing that already ?
Of course we could never be absolutely certain that they were done perfectly, I suppose. ;)
