Guys

How wide have you all made your dirt roads and what width are the resin roads supplied from the Pendraken site?

This is how we make our battlemats http://www.durhamwargames.co.uk/terrain/battlemat/index.asp

We make roads in the same way, but with thin (typically 40mm wide) strips of paper.  You can also use similar 'rubber' material painted onto clingfilm.  When it dries it peels right off and you have lovely rubber roads that will snake about and lay over any terrain.

Hi,

I make a Terrain Board for my 10mm Pendraken WSS Troops (3cm wide Bases) and for my 6mm
Blitzkrieg Commander Troops (2cm wide Bases). The small Dirt Roads are 2cm wide, large Dirt Roads 3cm and
cobbled  / concrete Roads are 4cm wide.

For the Pendraken Roads I can say nothing, but I´m also interested in the information...

I use tar roofing shingles backed with thin cardboard, cut to varying lengths but typically 1.5" wide. The surface takes cheap acrylic craft paints, which I muddy up by smearing filler on to get the rough effect for a dirt road. With appropriate paintwork it's good for tarmac roads too.

Hmm interesting, I think my MDF roads maybe a little too wide at 80mm... better saw them in half or keep for larger scale stuff.

As a quick and cheerful expedient I used masking tape. The tape I used was around 2cm wide but it doescome in various widths. I stuck the masking tape to a work surface in 30 to 60cm long lengths and then painted the surface a scrabbled dirt colour. Once dry I rolled each tape on to an old pen. When I needed it I could simply un-roll it and stick down on to the gaming surface. Because masking tape is designed to be removed without damaging surfaces it doesn't tend to leave sticky residue on the game table. I ended up getting 4-5 uses out of the tape before it started looking a bit tatty.

By no means a work of art but pretty good result considering the cost, time and effort involved. It occurs to me that you could do something similar to cover up gaps in commercial roadways which always end up looking so un-sightly.

Our resin roads are around 30mm wide (not counting the hedges).

In one of the issues of Battlegames someone in NZ was showing how to make roads out of Neoprene, looked very nice at the end and will drape over most terrain being made of rubber
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!
