What would you do if...?

   So, of course the way you, gentle reader, do things is the best of all possible ways; but if you had to change, what would you select if:
1)   you had to use 10mm other than Pendraken figures;
2)   you had to use a different scale;
3)   you had to play a different period from your present stable of staples (ain't I poetic today?); and
4)   you had to change to a different game from wargaming (God forbid), and why?

My own answers, if you are still reading (thank you), would be 1) Steve Barber, since despite the limited range his figures ae beautifully sculpted; 2) 6mm, for the sake of massed battle effect, storage and transportation, and sheer poverty; c3) crusades, since skutatoi and knights Templar paint up most attractively; and 4) shogi, which is a superb tactical gam that I don't focus on half as much as it would behove me to.

I don't know what you mean.

That would be 6mm; it's the "massed" look + large maneuvering space on the table that does it for me.

Medieval probably - instead of my present staples of WWII and 17th century.

Chess. Unless you consider that a wargame, which it was originally. After that, it would probably be some banal card game.

But to answer the questions...

1)   would vary, depending on period
2)   torn between 15mm & 6mm, 15s are nicer to paint but 6mm give better mass effect
3)   18th century India
4)   Bridge, it is the best card game ever I've being playing over 20 years and still get a buzz when I make a contract

1. Magister Militum - but only because of their range. Quality and pricing in no way comparable to Pendraken.
2. 15mm - Tried 6mm and was never comfortable with my painting
3. Medieval I think
4. Never really considered it, but would probably start on-line gaming of some sort.

I think that where you say 'Khazaks', you actually mean 'Khazars'. But as to the questions:

1) Are there other manufacturers!    OK, yes, there are. I use Minifigs/Magister/Pithead to fill some gaps. But 1st choice is always PD.
2) I would probably want to try the 3mm (1/600) stuff, for the massed effect.
3) Moderns would be a good choice then (I have WW2 and the dungeon in 10mm). And ancient/medieval in 15mm.
4) I also play varous boardgames/cardgames/etc (the 'Eurogames' stuff).

1. Irregular are good but small, Old Glory are even smaller and somewhat wooden.

2. 15mm - Lord knows I've got enough of 'em.

3. I might dip down into Ancients, if only to see if anything has changed since the dark days of WRG.

4. I play a lot of strategy games - my favorite is Carcasson a tile game that involves building walled towns, monasteries, roads etc.

1. Irregular are good but small

I ordered some trial packages from Irregular. Too much flash, too little detail. The heads in particular are pin-sized, whether intentional or due to miscasting I couldn't be arsed to find out.

1) Besides Pendraken I cannot think of any decent 10mm stuff I would actually buy
2) definately 3mm/6mm stuff for mass armies and 28mm skirmish

1. I often buy from the MM range where gaps in PD ranges exist
2. I have stuff in 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm and 28mm. If I had to stick to one because 10mm didn't exist it would probably be 15mm
3. I'd like to play Samurai games but cant find a decent set of rules
4. I'd take up mixed beach volleyball and volunteer to be the permanent server so i could stare at my female partners arse all the time... or a mixed tandem bike riding team so I could stare at my female partners arse all the time...

OldenBUA - Quite right, and in fact I got it right the first time (before the computer froze on me), and maybe the second (before the power cut).

2) Regularly play 15, 25, 28, 6mm, plus 1:1200 ships, 1:600 planes and 1:24000 spaceships.

3) Erm, the only period I don't (or haven't) played regularly is Renaissance to 1800 and C20th interwar...

4) Fencing, climbing, badminton, pickled egg eating...

1) I'm not overly impressed by other 10mm stuff, so I'd go straight to Q2

2) I already muck about with multiple scales, but 15mm would become the prominent one.

3) I think cavemen and dinosaurs is the only thing I haven't tried yet ....... Nah, ain't going to happen!

4) I'd just put the extra time into my other main hobby - N scale (read 10mm) railways.
