Yep, as free as you can get I think.  You need a domain name (or add your forum to an existing website), and I think there's a monthly hosting fee to the SMF people, but I'd need to check with Matt about that.  There's been another thread about this previously, which may have more info in it, I'll see if I can find it.

Agree with Grumpy, that Freeforums place also supply the (sub)domain name for you, so it costs, not a haepenny, which is always good.
