Really good report.  I am really attracted to these rules
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Nice mate - good effort to lose a couple of Notables too  :D

Nice report Nosher and I look forward to your thoughts on the rules. After a Lite version game on Monday, my impressions are good so far.

Serotonin

Nice report Nosher.

I got a test game in last night with a friend using the full rules, and while Im not very familiar with the period it seemed a really good, fun game. There's a real tension in wanting to use the nasty cards you have in your hand to cause mayhem and problems for your opponents command while at the same time needing them to maintain cohesion of your force. Quite a few times I ended up with only 1 or 2 cards in my hand because Id chucked in cards to modify and interrupt elsewhere meaning that at crucial points I was having to pass on my turn to get more cards. Luckily my opponent was in the same boat so it wasnt a disaster! The core mechanics remind me of Black Powder with the DISR being very like Black Powders casualty/shaken mechanic. Very enjoyable. Be making some Pendraken orders in the near future I think.

Had some great events happen, that coordinated march event (you get to activate and march or rally 2 formations instead of the usual one) card is really nasty and my mate played that event two turns in a row on me. We also had some nice turn abouts on the volley phase using interrupts which kept it all lively. I pulled a nasty combo to win the game, clattering into his line infantry with my line infantry and grenadiers using a card that gave me +2 in combat, and seeing as all his units had some nasty disruption levels due to some decent fire in the volley phase, it was goodnight Vienna!

Definitely a keeper in my eyes!

Maurice looks good, thanks Nosher

Aart Brouwer

Maurice sounds good and looks good, I'll clearly have to get my copy soon.

Thanks Nosher and Serotonin!

I know its only one game but it did inspire me enough to order some bases to set about basing a whole load of unpianted units I never quite got around to last time and is also the first set of rules covering the AWI that I have felt fits properly.

Planning a second outing this Friday to help with writing that synopsis, but as Serotonin says the card system is quite neat even if it does make the table rather crowded at times.

A useful AAR, I'm waiting for my copy to appear and still considering how to do this period. I've got some Jacobites which might be my main stay but am interested in the WSS and AWI.

For those that are interested in the rules, the bundle offer finished this Sunday according to the Honour website. This may pre-empt me into ordering the rules before the offer finishes.

Nosher

I think the offer is still on at Northstar - which is on the UK

That should have read FINISHES this Sunday. I'm not sure if the Northstar deal will finish then as well.

TinyTerrain

Just ordered the rules myself (ahead of the end of the sale). Not played this period before, not sure whether to do AWI or French Indian War first? How does maurice deal with Skirmishers?

Any inputs very welcome?

Cheers,

I think they are classed as Irregulars, and have advantages in Towns, Woods etc. IIRC they are mentioned in one of the 'what's in the main rules' boxes in the Lite version.

Serotonin

Yeah they are Steve. Theres a nice national advantage card that gives them a exta 2 BW range too. They also ignore difficult terrain effects and can evade charges. Downsides are they dont count towards army morale level (unless you use a natioanl advantage card that allows every 2 irregular units to count as 1 morale point) and they also have -1 to firing to represent less dense formation of troops firing. All very simple but works well- in our game my opponent had a couple of units hidden in some woods on a flank, and with their extra range he was able to cause quite a bit of disruption to my cavalry.
