Hi all,

I'm thinking of trying out the new 'Maurice' 18th century rules when they come out next month. However I have no figures and no experience of the period. Being old my eyesight's poor and my hands arn't too steady either (and don't get me started on my bladder). :) So I'll need to choose armies that have easy to paint uniforms.
What I'm looking for are some suggestions for forces to go build, I'll need to paint opposing armies as well as no one else near me has any forces. The thought of all that fiddly lace trimming and hat edging is putting me off trying this period so I need help convincing myself I need another 2 armies to add to the lead mountain.  ;)

Thanks,
Ferb

WSS may be your answer. Only really has hat trimmings to bother about in the majority of armies.

Hat triimng is not too bad. Often easiest to do a broad edge first and then reduce by doing the main black tricorn colour second.

PS Old f*rt with same eye and hand issues!  ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I'm assuming that WSS is short for War of the Spanish Succession (that's all I could find on Google so I hope I got it right ) and the Pendraken range would be Marlburian.

One suggestion on the poor eyesight...  I bought a set of headband magifying glasses from hobby lobby.  I used the 40 percent off coupon and it cost me around $12.  I use it for everything from 10mm to 28 mm and it makes a huge, huge difference in painting.  I doubt if I could paint 10mm without them.  I would highly recommend them.
