Thanks Nik :). Complete lack of meaningful sleep this week due to work has left me with little in the way of mental capacity, so I can now check out the website to see what this is all about. And no cheeky comments about my general lack of said capacity ;).

First out of three orders arrived on Saturday, adding to the lead mountain.

General progress page http://anyonenotfinished.pbworks.com/w/page/51255453/The%20Great%20War

The light coloured bases (as opposed to white) are fully painted figures just waiting for the base to be finished off.  Hence Russians are reasonable well advanced as opposition.  Minor step back in that I forgot about the Regimental Command bases for all sides.  Luckily I had included a few bases with officers from the Starter packs, so they have been pressed into service however, that leaves the four White "holes" in each division which will need to be filled.  It also means that the Russians are down 4 bases (full battalion equivalent) which will need the next order to sort out.

Spent the Sunday away from home so while the white base are now painted up they need the last bit of flocking and I still have a german battalion and half a regiment of Uhlans to get done.  Other problem is that I have run out of bases so the Jagers and spare MGs will have to wait for the postman

Next load of metal has just come through the door.  Luckily I had finished all the Germans that I had originally bought and planned.  A couple of new shots and close ups

Problem is that J.S Fab conversions on the Cavalry mean that my first love (1st Cavalry Division) may be getting an airing sooner in the Project rather than later.

So  10 Battalions of Inf, All the Regimental and Div HQs, Div Cav Regt (pending head swopping a unit of Jager Zu Pferde).

Missing now:  2 Battalions of Inf (24 Inf & 3 MG08 teams); 3 Batteries 77mm (just need the guns I have the bases done), Engineers (in one of the orders)

I have two more orders in with PD at the moment so will need to get the majority of the Russians done before adding the last Germans (like that will happen ;D) before then starting off on the British and then the German Cavalry Division (which will probably get done first as it is Eastern Front).

Update as of close of painting today (15 March 2012)

Mammoth effort to get the Russian Infantry completed.  Not quite there yet, need another 12 bases worth plus the dismounts for the Cavalry so another two packs of RP1 needed (on my plan but Not Yet Ordered).  Still need 8 Maxim MGs as well.  One new addition, after reading my Eastern Front book, I have decided to add a 122/152mm Howitzer unit as well (not on my plan  :))

Germans have all been checked and the bases are all flocked.  They are missing 8 bases which is a pack of GP23 (I prefer the with backpack and Picklehaube to GP1) and 3 MG08 again I have planned to get these done but Not Yet Ordered.

End result is I am ahead of the lead mountain and order 4464 which is the British start unit has just been posted according to the website with only one more WW1 order behind it with the specials I am at the 90% point on this one before diverging off for a bit of Sci Fi madness.  It also means I have all the forces done to get some more play test games in with painted figures and terrain rather than the odd proxy.

Another pendraken packet arrived this morning.

120+ Infantry, 18 Pdr guns, Trench mortars, Vickers and High command.  Enough to start two Brigades for a British or Commonwealth division from 1916 onwards

Interested to see you use superglue to hold the little devils in place. Must work out quite expensive? I've always used PVA myself - goes a lot further but takes a little longer to dry. I'm assuming, of course, you use standard MDF bases.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I always use superglue - but I get those multi-packs of little tubes [the thin superglue] from Tesco when they have them: something like 12/18 tubes for a pound...apart from the last time I saw them when they were 50p.

I got some funny looks from the checkout girl - I had £10 worth  :D

With your rate of production, that should last a week or two, no?   :o
Water is indeed the essential ingredient of life, because without water you can't make coffee!

:D That's a fair comment - I reckon I use 2-3 tubes per army(ish), more if I'm using it to base of course...so I went to check & I've only got about 8 left!

Minor problem with doing the Sunday roast involving the carving knife and my left hand :-[

Means that I can't do anything using my left hand (I am right handed  ;)) so things like stringing barbed wire and positioning figures on bases or holding a figure with the left hand to get the detail painting done are on hold for a day or so.  It is across the knuckle so keeps bleeding, own fault.

I had kept things moving on Saturday and finished off the MG company and the last of the Initial 6 battalions plus HQ so I can at least game with these.  For the rest had at least managed to get all the remaining figures on bases with a white undercoat and basing sand applied.  I can manage to crack on and get the base coats done and the bases finished, but will be the end of the week before the last battalions get the attention they need.

Uploaded a couple of pack shots (ie bare metal) of the Arty packs http://anyonenotfinished.pbworks.com/w/page/51336347/Great%20War%20-%20British plus current progress shot.

Crikey! Makes may Sunday roast issue of not defrosting the beef for long enough seem very minor.
