Outpost CZ#471 - Sci-fi: humans v tripods

Outpost CZ#471 is an outlying hamlet on the mineral-rich backwater of Claysmax IV - at the far reaches of the mining development on the planet. The outpost has sprung up around the latest exploratory drill-site...yesterday, the engineers building the new road sent an Alpha-coded alarm signal and fled back to the outpost: a fast-deploy force was despatched from its holding ship and arrived to find the miners & engineers had barricaded themselves in their buildings. With their on-board motion sensors registering heavy movement from the north, the soldiers deploy & dig in...









It's not long before they see dust-clouds on the horizon:

Finally got round to fighting this one this morning: fast & furious 

Tripods begin the onslaught, moving up towards the outpost & opening up; the defenders hold their fire and wait for optimum targets: this proves costly...





The Goliath tanks open up from long range & fire pours from the walkers - taking down the shields of the tripods on the left flank - they've got the momentum now & take both of them down:





It's costly though:










The tripods glide forwards, wreaking havoc:




They pour fire into the embattled defenders:


...and a vicious assault sees off the power armoured troops:

Game. Over.

Looks like the first stage of the invasion was never in doubt!
Was it an overwhelming walker force or were the human rolls pitifully bad?

Looks like you need some reinforcements there, like some Heavy Guns and maybe some Attack Drones...

Mainly some stupidly good tripod rolls [both for attacking & saving] and some relatively poor rolls from the humans; I was using Bug stats for the tripods [using Future War Commander] and they worked really well: but it does mean that the tripods are both Tough & have Shields to get through...the combined fire of the Goliaths & the Dreadnought walker did the business on the two medium tripods though - and shows what weight of fire can achieve: ripped through the 7S and hits in 3 rounds of shooting

Yep - I think you're right Ian: next time I play this I'll give the humans much more in the way of defences - this scrap reflected a very hasty defence: if they had some toys to defend with, it would have been harder to dig 'em out I think.
