Hello,

I´m uncertain what figures I should use for the following troops:

Hanoverian Line Cavalry (my guess would be the prussian cuirassiers. For the hanoverian Dragoons I would use their british counterparts)
Hessian Musketeers/Grenadiers and Brunswick Infantry/Grenadiers (my guess would be prussian infantry and grenadiers)
Saxony (again, my guess would be the prussian line)

If some gentlemen with more knowledge of the period could enlighten me? Please? :)

Best wishes,

Greetings

I used Prussian cuirassiers and dragoons for Hanoverian and Hessian cavalry and dragoons and Prussian musketeers and grenadiers for Brunswick and Hessian infantry.  Haven't got as far as Saxons yet.

Derbo,

If I recall correctly the Hanoverian Horse regiments did not wear the cuirass, and their coats did not have lapels. Bearing in mind that the "fit" of coats (loose or tight) in this scale is bit tricky to see anyway under belts etc, would Russian dragoons be a better option?  The Hanoverian dragons did have lapels, so their Prussian counterparts would be a pretty good choice. I'll give a bit more thought to this conundrum!

Oops!

Always check figures before applying fingers to keyboard.  The Pendraken Russian Dragoons are not wearing a coat, just the waistcoat!  That said, a quick look at the lovely Austrian Dragoon figures shows that the sword position carefully hides the lapel question, and that the shabraque has a nice curved end, and so fits the Hanoverian Horse regiments very well.  You just need to give some thought to command groups, as no drummers, and standards rather than guidons.  Nothing ever simple, eh!

Thanks a lot!
I´ll try the Prussian Dragoons for the Hanoverian Dragoons and use the British Dragoons for Hanoverian Horse, as both have no Lapels. I just have to cut or file away the right shoulder knot.
Think that´s gonna work.

I dont think that British Dragoons would fit, as they have large pouch/cartridge box resembling more WSS dragoons, than any SYW cavalry.

Actually, Niemeyer & Ortenburg depict Hanoverian dragoons with a large cartouch box slung on a broad bandolier over the left shoulder. The reiters have the same bandolier, but without the cartouch-box. The main problem with the reiters, as others have pointed out, is their long coats with no lapels.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

So, the British dragoons for Hanowerian dragoons seems to be better choice. But still no good figures for Hanoverian heavy horse.

Hi Maciek,

What do you think of the Austrian Dragoon option for the Hanoverian Horse other ranks?  Have I missed something?

Molinary. I'm not an expert in SYW, so far.
Austrian Dragoon have lapels while Hanoverian Horse did not. Remowing it is no problem for me, but many people expect "ready to paint" figures.
Maybe adding a pack of Hanowerian Horse to the SYW line would be a good choice ... ?

Thanks for all the replies! I´ll consider some options.
At the moment, there is enough infantry on my table, so I´ve a couple of weeks before I need to decide anything.
If the perfect soliution comes to someones mind, please share :)

Maciek,

Agreed, but my point was that the Austrian Dragoon figure in the Pendraken line has his sword in such a position that you cannot tell (or at least I can't) whether he has lapels or not.
