Hello everybody!

So, I've sat looking at my packets of little men and got all disheartened after my initial attempts and fialure sin getting the right colour onto the right figures for my Anglo Irish James II army. I put them off waiting for the horses, so I could get the lot in 1:20 scale and look at it laid out... No sign of cavalry yet... or artillery... or even a clue to when there will be a sign... sigh... So anyway, picked up the bruch finally, got through a few units, still need to wash them but they look good...

Whilst I was doing that I got a few friends and relatives who likve in the Republic of Ireland to rummage round wrt John Graces rgt. Commanded by his son Robert, but nobody could find out what the uniform was. On the Junior General website its red with green strides and facings. But nobody could dig anything up about them over the water. Its not TMP so I'm disputing anything by anyone and I don't want to look like a nugget on the LOA forum, but has anybody painted these and if they have, is red and green the way to go?

thanks,

Alan

I don't think the junior general figures are too reliable. Sometimes they are right, but sometimes not. If you are doing an Irish army, you'll have to be willing to make stuff up, but red or white coats are a goo bet, as are the colonel's family crests for flags. Very few regiments coats or colours are known of (especially frustrating considering how many must have been taken at Aughrim), those that are are almost all owed to the good fortune of John Stevens, an English jacobite, having time to note some down in his diary, though sadly his regiment had to march before he could record more than a handful.

I wouldn't get too wound up about it.  In the main nobody will really know as next to nothing at this level of detail was recorded. As the old saying goes about history being written by the winners, an awful lot would have been lost.  The LoA forum is probably the best for the period; ask away, those guys have a genuine interest in the period and will respond to any question.  I've benifited many times myself.

Thanks for the replies guys. I honestly don't know why it keeps coming up. Everybody knows the answers really. Its either red, french off white/grey or brown and dirt! I think part of this is that we would all love to know, but never will. I fret like you wouldn't believe looking at the little men thinking...  :-\ is that right? is it? Maybe not. Maybe yes.

I don't know why, it just doesn't seem right doing whatever you think does it?  ;D
