Hi, i have based up my Poles and are now looking to build the other antagonist. however my question is what figures are best suited to this purpose, my guess would be English civil war but not which models?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't forget the other enemies: Muscovites, Turks, Cossacks, Tartars, and even other Poles, since they had a civil war of sorts. The Muscovitrs look very pretty, Turks play well in an army with four rather than three commands, and Cossacks can get a LOT of fast shot and cheapo axemen and pikemen.
In fact, I'm just starting a Swedish army now myself, using Pendraken ECW figures too. The ranges are nearly completely interchangeable (except for hairy haggis-eaters with axes and broadswords).
Good luck to you; glad that there are still  few P. and S. gamers on the boards. Hope you'll lend your voice to the call for Aztecs (not to mention Koreans, Chinese, Burmese....)

If you go the ECW/TYW route you can pit the Poles against Swedes, Catholic Germans, and of course many of the 'later versions' of the same armies. In fact (and I wish I had done this) if you keep the pike and shot units generic enough you can have one pike and shot army pretty much represent any one of its contempories by using interchangeable falgs or command units

I've seen a Swedish flag showing a horseman in a lobster pot helmet.

thanks to everyone have reached a conclusion, will use GNW figures as they match the rest of the groups figures, ie they are doing WSS. I will tweek my poles to be a little later than they are currently.
