The Battle of Malplaquet was one of the bloodiest battles of the 18th Century. In a small area of ground, over seven hours,  the terrible fighting left up to 40,000 men dead or wounded, with thousands of them dying of their their wounds in the next few weeks. The terrain, combined with the vigorous use of redoubts and entrenchments by the French, made the battle a killing field that had not been seen before in the War of Spanish Succession. The intensity of the fighting, especially in the two areas of woodland (Bois de Sars and Bois de la Laniere), marks this battle out as unusual and particularly savage. The aftermath gave Malborough and Eugene pause for thought when declaring this a great victory.

This famous battle is now available to refight using Le Roi Soleil (LRS) the Impetus variant by Des Darkin.  As with all the other LRS publications, it is FREE to download  from the site.
