General Bt Sherman

I began this project back in October with the goal of building armies to refight some of the Civil Wars most famous battles around their Sesquicentennial date.  My original post can be seen here:
http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=1839.0

It is now April and I still need to paint approximately 650 infantrymen by July in order to refight the battle for Henry House Hill. I will be making weekly updates on my new Blog to track my progress. Also instead of starting a new thread every time I post an update, I will just keep this thread ongoing. If everything goes well I hope to run a game at Fall In this year.

PROJECT UPDATE 04/28/2011
Hello and thank for checking back. This week I began painting a new batch of 240 Confederate Infantrymen. I’m hoping to have this batch complete in a few weeks. Also on my blog I share my technique for painting ragged Confederate Infantry (including a paint chart).

PROJECT UPDATE 08/10/2011

I have a couple of project updates to share. First, the date has finally been set for my Bull Run game. The date is Sunday, September 11th at 11:00 am. I’m hoping by publicly advertizing this game I will attract some new people to join our gaming group. So far I have one non wargamer who is interested in joining the game. So thing are looking good.

Next, my focus has begun to shift to building terrain for this game. I just posted on my Blog an overview of the terrain that I’m currently working on. This includes trees, rivers, and split rail fence. You can view the full post here: http://btsherman.6sided.net/2011/08/10/10mm-terrain-part-1/

That's the first time I've seen most of that terrain.  I looks really good.  I've been watching Bryan paint these minis for the last 6 months and they are fantastic!

I'm not sure which side I'm playing but most of my experience is with Napoleonics.  I never played much ACW.  It should be interesting because I figure I'll make the same mistakes that the early ACW generals made in real life when they tried Napoleonic style tactics.

Don’t worry I haven’t ever played a horse and musket game. Yes this is certainly going to be a learning experience. The terrain and the number of troops involved are going to make maneuvering very tight.

Battle of Bull Run Preview
Over the weekend I did a dry run of the Battle of Bull Run game that I’m running this weekend. Below are a couple of images that I took.

Henry House Hill looking North-West. The Henry House is the white building near the center.

Looking South-West.

It took me most of the day to get this table setup. I use almost 25 feet of rail fence and I had just enough trees to cover the table. Overall I’m pretty happy with how the table looks. I can’t wait to fight the battle this weekend.
