Ok, now that I've seen what's coming from Clibs hand I must get ready for this period(only slightly removed from my beloved WSS/GNW). This begs the question of what rules will you guys be using? Looking at the possible candidates of "Beneath the Lily Banners", "Ridiculous Vanity", "Twighlight of the Sun King" or maybe "Ga Pa" and, of course, I wouldn't want to let Last Hussar down, "Blackpowder".  Modifications to other rules are also a consideration.
With the smallish armies of this period I would only consider battalion/squadron size units.

Surely any decent set of ECW rules would cover it? It was only forty years or so down the road.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Take a look at Captain General from the Pike and Shot society, great command and control and the combat really gives a period feel. The differance between the deep formations and the shallower ones is well shown.

The Platoon firing infantry are on three bases 4cm wide, while the Rank firing are on two bases each 4cm wide. The intresting thing is that you can get two ranks of five figures on a 4cmx2cm base. So three of those will make the Brigish and Dutch units, the middle stand will have pike. The French will be three ranks of 5 on a base 4cm x 3cm and each base of 15figs with 4 figure of pike on each base. A great way to visually see the differance between the two methods in use. The combat is rather elegant without figure removal.

Command and control is great in that each brigade is issued an order but it must be activated by a limited and ever changing Command Point pool.

Howdy William,

So how would one go about obtaining these rules from the Pike and Shot Society  :-\

I also just downloaded the free impetvs variant off the website. Basic Impetvs is also a free download.

I like the c&c rules of impetvs so this may fit the bill as NO figure removal is a must for me. I believe I'll get the P&SS Captain General as well.

Gentlemen, do you mean that the "Might and Reason" rules, by Sam Mustafa, are not played at all in Britain. ?  :-\
In France we play it for 10mm and 15mm, and use mostly Black Powder when playing with 28mm.
"Might and Reason" includes the League of Augsburg War ( by yhe way I thought that you called it Nine Years War).

According to my copy of 'Might and Reason', they cover the period 1740-1780.

Greetings

A module for M&R was produced covering the period from 1689 - see http://www.sammustafa.com/Resources/SunKing.pdf

Note that M&R is two stands to a unit and each unit is a brigade of about 4 battalions or 10 squadrons, so it's a bit larger in scale than the original request.

How did you like the Baroque rules for Impetus? They play well?

I am really tempted to change my next project from SYW to this range. Rules though is the stumbling block.

I like Impetus, this period should make some wonderful bases on 120x60.

Version 2 of Beneath the Lily Banners (from the League of Augsberg) is due out very soon.  They're by Barry Hilton who is famously fixated by this period. I'm told that the original rules played well and are designed specifically for this purpose but were not well written. Hopefully v2 will fix that and may well be exactly what we need ?

Does BLB use figure/stand removal for casualties? I also hear they are "old school" style. Are there any reviews/synopsis on BLB?
I just received "Captain General" and gave a quick run through and they look VERY promising. I also hear that Warlord Games will be printing a set in the near future which, I'm sure, will be a variant of "Black Powder"

Hi Grenadier
I really like Captain General, take a look at the basing I am using, it is 4cm wide by 1.5cm deep for the two ranks of platoon firing infantry and 4cm wide by 3cm deep for Rank firing. With 30 figs in a battlion it will look really good.
