I've bought some tamiya acrylic paint from the local model shop and it doesn't work. I paint it on the metal figure and it comes straight back off onto the brush! I've used it on primed and unprimed metal and the results are the same. Is it designed for plastics only or am I missing something?  :-\

I have found this on the net:

Tamiya Acrylic Paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush or spray painting. These paints can be used on styrol resins, styrofoam, wood, plus all of the common model plastics.

I've used Tamiya in the past and didn't have adhesion problems even on bare metal. The reason I stopped using them was because the dried so fast that mixing shades was almost impossible as by the time you had mixed a colour it had dried >:(

Happens to me too, sometimes. Maybe you need to shake the bottle real (I mean REAL) good, or maybe thin it a bit? It has to do with surface tension, I think. By the way, I use my old supply, but for new paint, I only buy Vallejo now.

I never have a problem with Tamiya, try giving it a good stir, then shake it up.

Dickie255

Hey guys! Many thanks for the replies  and I've tried the well shaken, stirred and thinned methods. It's improved it a bit but not vastly it might be as fred12df says that it might be drying out too quick. Oh well!

Actually, I'm a bit of a "paint slag". I can't resist the urge to buy a tin of paint even if I need it or not when passing a model shop and the worst is when I'm at B&Q rummaging through their for sale damaged/end of line paint shelf. I'll buy anything if I think it might be vaguley useful.  Oh where will it end .....................

I've had this problem before (Duck egg reen especially, ruined a whole batch of WWII planes).
Try mixing is whilst standing in a tub of warmish water, helps the looosen the heavy layer up a bit. Otherwise, matt hand painted primer helps, it is less smooth than spray cans as undercoat.

Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Duke Speedy of Leighton

LOL! OK, standing the TUB of paint, not the painter in hot water (although I'm sure an early annual bath wouldn't hurt)!
