These have already been previewed by Techno, but as they look so good, I thought it wouldn't hurt to show them off again!  There'll be some opposition coming soon for these, so keep an eye out for those.

Hastatus and Princepts:

Triarii and Command:

Veles and Light archers:

Slingers and Armoured archers:

And the Italian Allies:

Also, keep an eye out for a couple of other little projects Techno is working on....  ;)

These are great, but the question we are all asking is...

Where is she? Where is she? Where is she?  ;)

Nice Scuplpts;

Could we get the Spears (Pilums) and Standard on the Standing figures more erect (85%?);  Just works better for basing.

Where do you get armoured archers in a republican Roman army? They're mid-imperial, aren't they?
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

Hi Fierce Kitty....Quite possibly/probably (?) you're right...But I'm not sure if there's an absolute definitive answer to that one.  (Seems more likely perhaps ?)
The other troops seem to be well described by the historians...but not the archers...(I think ??)
If only photography had been invented in the dim and distant past....(sigh)

Cheers - Phil.  (Waddayamean " I've hidden her away for myself" Leon ?..... I might even have a go at getting the paints out for that one myself....If only I can remember which end of the brush you use...Is it the pointy end or the fluffy end ?.  ;)

Some advice needed with these please all.

Above are Wips of the republican cavalry....
The chap on the left is destined to be an 'ordinary' cavalry 'trooper' (equites ?) for which I have a nice reference piccy....He's proposed to have a cloak...medium sized round shield and a spear/lance.
The guy in the middle is proposed as a 'standard bearer/signifier' similar to the foot version that I've already done.....Would this be correct ?... Wolf/bearskin cloak and his standard.....Not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree here !
On the right will be the tribune (?)..again similar to the foot version already done, though with a smaller round shield than before.

Input and comments would be gratefully received before I go 'galloping' off down the wrong path. (And I'm probably going to have to tweak a couple of the horses heads before I finish !)

Thanks - Phil... (Now back to their enemy....Pics soon with luck !)

Hi Phil

Sculpts coming along nicely. Equites were the wealthy members of the republican army (ie they could afford a horse which was also refunded by the state if killed in battle) so they are going to have pretty decent tack - mailshirts, cloaks etc. Shields were light and round and they carried spears and swords.
Don't know for sure about the bearskin for the signifier but Polybius stated Equites adopted hellenistic-style equipment. My take on it would be to do the signifier and decurions (leader/tribune model) with greek style helmets and plumes so they stand out with maybe the decurion brandishing a sword as opposed to a spear.

Just my take on it.
