Well as predicted, it's been VERY windy here since around 2.00am, with some huge gusts that sounded like a train rushing down the street. Not much sign of damage yet as dawn is not quite upon us, but little sleep had since the early hours. Rather tired, but hope others in the red area (we did get the alert on our phones) are OK too?

Hi

Right on the edge of the 'Red Zone' up here in the Mendips. Got the alert on the mobile yesterday evening which was a bit of a surprise I must admit though, thinking about it I'm fairly sure we had one back in January as well (we also had one when we were on holiday in Corfu back in September from the Greek authorities, they seem to be following us around). Anyway main thing is no damage that I can see (so far at least), just a few plans for today gone up in smoke.

Cheers Paul

VERY wild and windy overnight. Von didn't get to sleep until 5 this morning.
I went out with the dogs around 8....windy but not awful.
Went down to the village, only to find all but one of the shops shut. Nearly got knocked over by the wind, while walking to the pharmacy from the car park.
(The pharmacy was one of the closed shops.)
We had 4 short 'power outages ' overnight...fine at the moment. Worst part of that was Western Power phoning up with an automated message each time that happened, and annoying the mad dog.
Hope all's well with everyone else.

Cheers - Phil.

The strong winds have abated somewhat and have just walked to the shops. No sign of damage other than a neighbours fence panels blown in, but that often happens. Hardly any traffic first thing but come 11.00am things picked up after the Red Alert had moved to just Amber.

Went to Bicester from Aylesbury and back this morning,  and apart from a dip under a rail bridge needing care, it was pretty straight forward.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

We're allegedly down to an amber alert...but the wind seems as strong as ever..if not stronger. :o :-SS

We've had it pretty bad in the north-east, trees down across roads in several places and lots of minor damage around.

Trees had obviously come down in a few places, when I drove into Cardigan yesterday.
One looked quite large and was in the process of being sawn up.
Quite a mess by the time I drove back from the shopping !

I thought we'd escaped that at Techno Towers, but Von spotted one tree down in the fields across the road.
There's also a tree knocked over from the line of firs we've got that are around 40? yards from the back of the house.
The biggest pain is a tree that we were using as a support for some post and rail fencing.
That's now leaning, and has b*ggered a section of the fence.
Not quite sure how we'll sort that. ~X(  X_X  :'(
