Killiecrankie-inspired Wargame

I attended HMGS-East's Fall In convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and managed to get in a wargame inspired by Killiecrankie. The figures were Baccus, the rules were Liber Militum Tercios! and my opponent was my old friend Rob. It was a back and forth affair, the Jacobites enjoyed initial success and were close to victory. The Williamite units were battered but not broken and the highlanders started to lose impetus and began to break.

Ultimately, the Jacobites began to suffer heavy casualties and in the 7th turn, Mackay was able to claim a "fair" victory for the Government forces.

Lovely looking game.

I was at the Killiecrankie site earlier this year. It had me thinking of a 'what-if' campaign whereby Dundee survives the battle and continues the conflict. I then remembered that I had a copy of a set of rules, somewhere, about the campaign of Montrose in the North-East of Scotland -'Then Place My Parboiled Heid Upon A Stake'- which, if I remember, was bought at a model/gift shop halfway down Edinburgh's Royal Mile (Mac's Models??). Might be fun to use them as a basis.

I'm jealous! I was in Scotland for the Tattoo and Claymore this past August. My highland tour drive by Killiecrankie and Glenshiel but I didn't get to inspect either battlefield.

That set of rules sounds interesting, I wish I had seen that shop when I was fighting the crowds of Fringe on the Royal Mile. I can't complain too much because Claymore was an awesome event...I had the honor of meeting Leon and so many others that I look up to in this hobby.

I plant to expand my armies so that I can wargame hypothetical battles of Argyll's Uprising of 1685.

I appreciate the recommendations! I managed to get these earlier. I picked up One King as gift for myself last year and it is a cracker. I bought it for the Sedgemore information and then realized I had it in my library when I started working on my Killiecrankie project. It really provides everyone one would need to game the uprising. I really should donate review of the book on my blog.
