Firstly Hello, this will be my first experience with this ruleset. I picked up a copy second hand and am waiting for it to arrive.

My previous experience of moderns is Team Yankee, so fire teams for infantry and a 1 to 1 for the vehicles in the platoons. I plan to stick to my 15mm collection for the most part it's a scale I enjoy and am fairly invested in.

My question is what basing Conventions are used in this rules. Can it be played on a 1 to 1 scale? Should I be leaving the infantry based as fire teams or not?

Thanks in advance

Looking forward to getting back to some moderns at some point soon.

fred.

Welcome!

Basing is pretty flexible for BKC and CWC - as long as infantry on both sides is based similar, and infantry bases are close (ish) in size to your tanks you'll be fine.

Sensible to stick with what you have figures wise (we'll forgive you not going for 10mm, perhaps  ;) )

You do need some clearly identifiable command stands - but you are likely to have them.

The rules work for 1:1 or 1:squad scale so you should be good

WElcome.....There are no basing conventions per see. I have used 15mm stuff we had HQ's at platoon level which took the vehicle stats and acted as normal AFV's. Infantry similar, 1 base = 1 Section. Worked well although I prefer Battlegroup for 15mm.

Welcome indeed  :)

As others have stated there is no hard basing convention (the ones in the rules book are guidelines) many players (especially those coming across from Team Yankee) are continuing to use the Battlefront 'pill' bases for their 15mm troops (infantry, support weapons, FAOs, FACs and foot Recce*) & that works just fine. Vehicles don't need to be based although at smaller scales (6mm/3mm/2mm) this is probably advisable. So static deployed weapons (larger AA or ATGW weapons will also need to be on a base + their supporting crew).
*the one exception might be your Command units - making up Command bases can be fun and allows you to use soe specialist command vehicles that are not included in the lists (as in the base rules a Command base can be represented by anything and all have the same combat stats and defensive capabilities). Many players like to turn their command bases into mini-dioramas.

As Ian (Lord Kermit) has said, you can use the optional 'Line Commander' rules (available to download as a PDF from this Forum) to represent lower levels of command. This works particularly well for units where the HQ is actively engaged upfront with the units they command.

If you are proposing to play on a 1:1 basis I'd also recommend you use the optional 'Casualties Stay-On' rules. The base rules are designed to replicate platoons & multiple vehicles. The casualties stay-on rules means that units/AFVs will KO a lot quicker and you'll be able to use more units and the game will move faster. But it better replicates that 1:1 feel to the game.

Thanks for the warm welcome. All very useful information. Looks like the fire teams that the TY stands are will work just fine then.

I do like the sound of creating some mini dioramas for my command stands. That sounds like a fun opportunity for some modeling skills stretching.

I've just had postage confirmation of my rules so will look forward to digesting that when it arrives.

There are a lot of army lists and additional Optional/Alternative rules available on the Forum.

As a 'tip' use the on-line army lists rather than those in the book. Cold War army lists are a thing of joy ... in that they tend to be almost perpetually in a state of evolution as more info comes into the public domain.
There is a large Army List update due out later this year, with a host of additional army lists.
But if you read through the Rules & List errata threads on the Forum they will also greatly aid your understanding.
Happy Gaming
