Another Premium Phone Line Problem

Some of the premium phone lines were used to provide "telephone sex" and were even more expensive.

Another complaint I got was from one of the major providers of this type of line.  They complained that large numbers of their calls were cutting off abruptly after a minute or so.

We got the engineers to check all the equipment and looked over past fault records and could find nothing. As it was a large customer we even transferred a number of lines to different equipment to see if we could isolate the problem - Nothing solved it.

So escalated this high up the management chain and got permission to makes test calls into these lines. This involved talking to the service provider about mundane issues not the normal type of chat.   Again we could find no problems, but we did find out that many of the providers were  far from the young lingerie clad ladies that callers thought they were. 

Eventually we got permission to eavesdrop on the calls from the provider (no GDPR in those days). It only took half a dozen calls to solve why the calls were dropping out.............

While the (usually lady) provider, was telling the caller about her looks, lingerie and how she was touching herself etc. (she was probably sitting in Trackies, and smoking a fag) the caller was obviously enjoying himself. When he had been satisfied, he obviously though "Sh*t this call is costing me a fortune" and abruptly dropped the call.

Putting the official report together for the customer was quote tricky and resulted in much hilarity in the office as we tried to work out how to phrase things.

I used to work in an insurance office alongside one of these 'young ladies' who did that sort of thing in her youth, fully clothed.
