Hi,

I want to build forces for Principles of War for the Schutztruppe as well as the WaHehe/WaNgoni  and eventually the Arabs for the Abushiri Rebellion. First I was looking for 15mm miniatures but had no luck for these armies. Then I stumbled across Pendraken who seem to have the needed models.

Can anybody answer my following question or provide pictures for the packs?

  • What miniatures do you get in the packs of the GEA line? Are the models all the same? Are there several varied poses? Are there officer figures, standard bearers, buglers etc included?
  • What is the difference between GEA1 Early Askari troops and GEA2 Late Askari troops
?
  • GEA4 Sailors: Are these the Marine Infanteristen in helmets, or seamen?
  • Are GEA3 MG 08 team (3) & GEA5 Artillery crew with captured 2.5" screw gun (3) supplied with Askari Crews or Europeans?
  • I thought of using the Zulu models for WaHehe/WaNgoni, I guess in this scale this should be no problem. Any other ideas which models I could use?
  • Any suggestions for substitutes for the Abushiri Rebellion Arabs?

Thank you very much.

Cheers

I actually like the pictures, they give a good overview of the nice game you sat up there :-)

But they do not show the miniatures in great detail ;-) Thank you anyway :-)

here is a bit of a closer look, they are for my pulp games so totally unauthentic colours and pants painting to boot, but at least you can see the figures  :D

I may be able to help as I built a Pendraken Zanzibar Arab/Congolese Arab army for a Darkest Africa project. Most of the "Arabs" are taken from the Pathan figures in the NW frontier range- they have the right look with long robes , long rifles and round shields for East African Arabs. I also added some figures from the Dervish range to add variety. The native african components , both as tribal units and Africans within Arab units, were built up using Zulus and the Ruga-ruga figure from the WW1 range.

The Masai figures are in the WW1 range are very nice but are too distinctly Masai to be usuable as anything else.

The Civilian pack from the Dervish range was also useful for combining with Native porters as "Arab safaris". This pack also contains an avuncular merchant- a figure I liked so much that he has ended up as the standard command figure for the Arab army.

This force has been matched with a Force Publique army and has fought out a couple of interesting games using both PoW and Black Powder rules sets.
