Anybody fancy some homework?!

One of the interesting features of the new website is the ability to filter a group of products down to finetune what's visible.

So for example we can go through our historical ranges and assign them as Infantry / Cavalry / Artillery / Command / Other. This would trigger a filter bar on the left hand side where you can pick and choose what to see.  Or we could go through our WWII ranges and add a Theatre attribute so that you can filter them down to Early / Desert / Eastern Front, etc.

Some of these attributes are easier to do than others so I've started on the simple Infantry / Cavalry / etc ones at the moment ready for our launch.

So, does anyone fancy helping out with this task?

The first place we'd like to start is with the Modern Vehicles section as there's over 100 products in there now.  It would be great to be able to sort those by Nation (both manufactured by and used by) and then by Conflict/War.  So if you're looking to build a US Korean army you could filter down to just 'USA' and 'Korean War' to get what you need.  Or a Cold War French army, etc.

We can then look at the WWII ranges as the next option.  And then potentially combine a lot of the SCW categories into a larger product list and put the different factions/militias into the filters instead.

We'll obviously make it worth your while with some Pendraken-y credit or similar...!

Let me know if anyone fancies it and we can have a chat.

Just checking - the M48 was (according to Wiki) used in:
Cold War
1958 Lebanon crisis
Portuguese Colonial War
Dominican Civil War
Vietnam War
Six-Day War
Indo-Pakistani War of 1965
Indo-Pakistani War of 1971
Yom Kippur War
Western Sahara War
Lebanese Civil War
Turkish invasion of Cyprus
Iran–Iraq War
Battle of Mogadishu (1993)

It is/was used by 20+ countries.

I am assuming it would be classified here as (for example) Cold War, Vietnam, Arab-Israeli?

Yep, pretty much exactly what fsn has done here, but limited to the main conflicts and operators during those?  So for the M48 Patton example we'd have something like:

M48 Patton
Operators: USA, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, North Vietnam, South Vietnam, West Germany
Conflicts: Vietnam, Arab-Israeli, Indo-Pakistan, Iran-Iraq, Cold War

I can send a spreadsheet to one / both of you with the MDV codes and columns setup ready for the data?

Definitely, I'll get the basic Infantry / Command / Support ones done first and then we can look at theatres maybe.

As a general query on that, if you're in our WWII British Infantry category for example, would these feel like logical filter categories:

Infantry - rifles, brens, stens, etc.
Support - mortars, HMGs, Piats, etc.
Command - officers, radio ops, spotters, telephone, etc.
Casualties

Where would you expect to find AT rifle teams?  Or tank commander head/torso figures?

THe Boys would be best in the "Infantry Section I suspect, as would the 2" Mortar and Piat. All are in effect platoon weapons. 3" Mortar , Vickers MG as support.

Please. It gives us a starting point.

Hmmm. I'm trying to put together a "ruleset" for the C20 and later. I was following Lord Kermit's thought process, and was thinking that "infantry" would include weapon systems at platoon level. This would include the 2" mortar. Support would be higher level like the 3" mortar, but the definition of what goes where would depend upon the way a weapon was deployed in a particular army, at a particular time.

An MG42 could be at platoon level, and then on a tripod more likely to be in a support company?

Whatever you do, it will not fit everything, always. I suggest rifles, SMG, and LMGs in "infantry" (and I realise there is a problem there with the aforesaid MG42) and AT weapons, HMGs, missile launchers, flame throwers and mortars of all stripes go into "support".

No, it's not perfect, but it is easy.

Tank commanders would be "command"

Ithoriel

Yes, an MG34/42 being fired prone or carried while moving is Infantry but the same weapon tripod mounted is Support.

No easy divisions!

That said, I see no reason an item shouldn't appear in several sections.

Tank commanders being both Command and Vehicles for example?

Just a thought.
