It is inevitable that changes in military fashion occur. Between 1836 and 1846 the Mexican infantry changed the bell topped shako for one which tapered in towards the top rather than out. You could probably get away with using Alamo defenders as Texas Rangers (dismounted) but the New Orleans Greys, if available, should be able to serve as US troops.
