Hi Guys. I'm doing it tough having been dragged screaming and kicking from a NZ winter to a Northern Italian summer to visit my wives family. Inspiration is everywhere gaming wise. I was hoping someone could suggest a set of rules for WW1. My father in law just lives telling me Alpini stories. So I figured building both sides for some Italian-Austrian action might be fun.

1914 from Great Escape games look good.

I'd suggest skirmish level stuff for that. The Italian front was mostly the endless battles of the Isonzo river which I don't think offers much of interest for big actions. However there is a ripe ground for smaller actions and skirmish level stuff. I'm looking at TooFatLardies Through the Mud and the Blood and/or their more recent Chain Of Command variant (Cocking it up through the mud and the blood) for WW1 skirmishes.

If you do want slightly bigger actions, TFLs If The Lord Spares Us has been adapted to various fronts or for really big battles Great War Spearhead or Big Bloody Battles might be an option.

I've not played any of them for the conflict yet as still building forces but they're the ones I plan to try out to use for my Western Front games.

Caporetto is a potentially interesting battle, not least because of the involvement of a young Lt. Erwin Rommel. It's down my to-do list somewhere!

We really enjoyed "Squarebashing" from Peter Pig - you really felt like a high level commander with all the problems and issues and decisions that takes.

I'm going with Mud and Blood in 10mm. All distances/Ranges etc are going to be doubled and read as cm. So 12" = 24cm.
