I bought a blister with two Tiger 1 tanks at Salute and have had no problems assembling the tracks, gun and turret. But there's still two pieces (attached to a metal sprue) which I can't work out what to do with..? The look like a set of matching lights with twin pipes coming out from them. Any ideas what they are or where they go please..?

Not sure, never having bought model... but thinking exhaust tubes for rear deck? Do not separate until you have referenced pics.

Don't you remember the old ads Fred? "Just like the real thing!" ;)  ;D

To be fair to Airfix... and many models were first created, LONG ago! not sure about planes. But Tanks, etc.
Researchers measured up from existing vehicles.Just vehicles were wrong! Panther, rear sprocket had dropped. 234 A/C mudguards... rebuilders had not known they were WRONG! M3 H/T bulkhead... no idea about that one! lol!

I don't the these appendages were present on all Tiger versions anyway.

As originally designed, the Tiger's engine drew its combustion air through gratings on the hatch above the engine compartment. However, the oil-bath air filters fitted to the engine were not found to be adequate for dusty conditions. So, starting with Tigers sent to North Africa, two external air precleaners were supplied with all new Tigers. The crews had to attach them but in environments where dust was not an issue usually did not bother. The system was called "Feifel".

The Feifel system was dropped completely from production in October 1943. The mounting points on the rear plate were still provided on new Tigers for some three more months thereafter.

So adding them or not depends on date, theatre and crew tastes!
