I mentioned in my post on the thread about everyone's 2023 plans that I needed to work on some terrain items.

These photos show some of the "woodland" bases I made over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The basic trees are the very cheap Chinese ones you can easily find on Ebay, which I've fattened up by the method often described by the terrain modeller Ian Weekley.  This involves spraying the trees with adhesive (Spraymount, in my case), rolling them in some sort of scatter terrain materials (I got mine from the 4D Model Shop) and then spraying several times with matt varnish to fix them.  The bases are from Warbases.  I finished around 60-65 trees mounted on bases varying from bases with only 1 tree up to a couple of bases with 8 trees.
I've shown them with a couple of battalions of Gardes Francaises to show the scale.

I couldn't resist buying some of the Pendraken rabbits (10-NML9) at one of the shows, and some of them feature on a few of the bases.

The 'fattening up' process has definitely improved the trees, the rabbits are a great touch :)

Knowing how an@l some wargamers can be about uniforms colours etc I just wonder whether there will be some "rabbit fancier" out there who would look at these rabbits and say something like "ah yes, but your battle is set in 1862 in America ... and those are clearly European big-eared Belgian rabbits and they weren't bred until 1921. In Antwerp". I'm only mocking slightly, as this is very much a case or pot : kettle : black.

Cheers,

Thanks very much for the comments.

A friend did enquire whether they were correct eighteenth century rabbits, but I replied that I hadn't checked their facings.

I shall return to trees a bit later in the year; I've got at least another 100 to get through.

Now I'm working on some of the rampart and emplacement castings from the Pendraken selection.  Would love to see the dug-out casting available with gabions to complement the planks and logs versions.

Think that every time you put those trees to a table, you should add more rabbits.
