Really looking forward to this film
I read Dune @ age 15-16 and it has never left me and this on-screen adaptation seems worthy of my own imaginings over the years.

Well I must say it is visually very impressive and certainly looks spectacular.

Looking forward to this being released.
I thought the film with Sting in it was OK
and the mini series children of Dune wasn't too bad.
but I feel this should have the LOTR treatment making three or four films together.

Mind you, as much as I like Star Trek and Star Wars, it's time for something 'new' ..... even though, as a remake, it's not.

*Tremors, Star Wars (at least twice - one on an asteroid & another that opened it's mouth when Leia wore a bikini - who else didn't?), The Mandalorian - anybody think of any more?
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Yes definitely looking pretty impressive, I read myself as a young teenager, and "re-read" it on audiobook at the start of the year, hopefully it'll be a good take on it.

Seems there's a bit of an aversion to "new" things these days, people seem to prefer to comforts of the familiar over the challenges of the new. That's why we see so many Marvel and Star Wars and the like churning out new films every year. I'm sure there's a sociological paper in there somewhere, how in troubling and depressing times (like the last decade or two) people tend to prefer things that are nostalgic and familiar. Or maybe it just seems that way because those old favourites get so much publicity and media exposure!

I'm looking forward to seeing this (and Foundation).   

I read the 'Dune' novel again recently and was surprised how much it seemed to 'fall off
a cliff' towards the end.   It was a great read up to a certain point in the story (I think when
Paul Maud'Dib becomes 'aware') and then, after this, it almost felt like a second author
was finishing it off.   It really seemed that Herbert was rushing through many of the later
scenes which is particularly frustrating as these are some of the most 'cinematic'.

I'll still watch the film though (and hopefully, it will inspire some tabletop battles...)

It was ok - I think I enjoyed it at the time but it lost some of the epic scale of the book (that was reduced further by the TV series) but it looks like this new film (which has echo's of Blade Runner 2049 in it) will recapture that and more.
I liked the 'gothic imperialist' approach at the time - it would be interesting to see who influenced who, Steve Jackson or David Lynch!
I also thought the mutated Guild navigator in its tank was great - it will be interesting what the new film does to better that (NB: they appear to be keeping that well under wraps) along with the machine augmentations elements etc.

My issues with the '84 film at the time were:
1). Kyle MacLachlan playing a 15 year old hero didn't really work for me - it will be interesting to see if Timothée Chalamet can pull that off
2). the depiction of the imperial sardaukar in PPE/hazmat suits was terrible - the TV series sardaukar in their Papal Guard berets was even worse !!!
3). the creepy superimposed (painted on the film) glowing blue eye effects was ridiculous

On the overall storyline - I agree that it is heavily redacted or concertinaed towards the end of the book but I remember an interview with Frank Herbert years ago, where he said he was under massive pressure from the publishers to give them something for a specific deadline. I think he'd have liked a lot longer to finish it off.

I must admit I was never a huge fan of the subsequent books - but maybe it was because the original novel was so fresh and new in its concept that it was a hard act to follow.
IMHO it was the 1st true "space opera"

The new film will no doubt be helped by the use of Pink Floyd in the sound track  :D

I must admit that the original Dune was something I just didn't 'get' and turned it off after about 20 minutes.  I've never gone back to it so it'll be interesting to see what this new version is like.

What do you think of his sons books bringing more of the universe Alive?
Some of the pre Dune books are good reads.
The one where (Spoiler Alert)@@@@ they are based around the Universe
By the old couple dragged on a bit.

Same here, but I may have lasted a little longer. I do remember seeing some truly terrible special effect shot that put me off. (Can't remember what now)
