All,

I've got a hankering to play some 4th Marine Brigade actions in WWI using Pendraken 10mm minis.

Can anyone point me to a/some book(s) that is super-detailed and thorough on the above two battles?  I'm looking for scenarios, so I'd really like descriptions of actions down at least to company level, with dates, times, forces committed, casualties, objectives, maps, and key terrain.

Do such books exist?  If you're aware and able to point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

V/R,
Jack

Welcome back Jack

I've done a fair amount of early WW1 gaming with Pendraken stuff so can certainly recommend it.  :-bd

If you want some good solid details on the Marines at Belleau Wood and Chateau Thierry try the Osprey campaign book: https://www.amazon.com/Ch%C3%A2teau-Thierry-Belleau-Wood-1918/dp/184603034X

It gets 4.5 out of 5 stars for reviews so should be useful. If you look further down the page you can see some links to other books on the subject to check out, though I don't know how good they are.

Hope that helps. Back to painting 1/600th Picoarmor planes.....

Cheers
Peter

Thank you gentlemen, I shall take a look.  I don't mind dry, just need the info, and can't wait to see the 1/600 planes, Peter!

I am getting there with them Jack, took delivery of another batch last weekend via a freind of mine who'd ordered a bunch from Picoarmor recently.

look forward to reading your batreps about the 4th Marines.

I assume you've done a thorough search on line.  The USMC might be a fruitful source.  Their history and records people are at:

United States Marine Corps History Division
3078 Upshur Avenue
Quantico, Virginia 22134

Their site is at:

You might try the Western Front Association.  Worth joining if you have an interest in WW1 generally.  You'll find them at:

Here are a couple of articles on Belleau Wood you might find useful:

Thanks, Peter, and me too, I haven't even bought the figures.  Of course, I actually had some WWI Germans and Marines... but I sold them.

No Sir, I have not.  And I apologize if that seems slovenly of me, but I've been busy and, more importantly, I've enjoyed much success with forums such as this where knowledgeable folks have generously shared.

I appreciate the links, I shall have a go at them when I have some time.  I haven't traditionally had much interest in WWI, but I had read about Belleau Wood as a child, and was recently reading a regimental history of 5th Marines, which sparked my interest.

Jack

Good, then the stuff will be new to you.  No point posting what you have already got.
