With the contents of the Perry 28mm ACW Battle in a Box set now painted, I set the table up for scenario 6 (taking the farm) from the Perry Firepower rulebook.

I particularly like your Zouaves (unlucky by the sound of things - not their fault they suffered a nasty result of 5 hits?). By the way (currently painting some north American Pendraken stuff), what colour did you use to paint the Zouaves' haversacks?
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

The bags were painted with Vallejo 819 Iraqui Sand. Followed by a thinned ink wash and then a highlight thrown back in, using the original Iraqui Sand.  I have no idea whether that is the right colour, but it looks okay and I find Iraqui Sand one of the most versatile in my painting armoury!

Thanks. That one appears to be quite popular but alas, one I don't have in my own paint box. Must address that omission sometime.

(I've got Dark Sand, mind you, but that is more of a yellowish buff).
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I've been using Israeli Sand quite a bit recently as a primer on brighter figures (like Aztecs) as well as mixed with PVA for basing. It's a bit of a duller sand colour so works well for a variety of base colours.

Where's English Sand, containing fag butts, empty lager bottles and discarded needles, and smelling strongly of wee?
