The stuff I use is quite strong. I use it to support tiny aeroplanes. Even manages a Sunderland without a problem.

I bought a pack of brass rod in assorted sizes for a few quid from a seller on Ebay. 10 pieces 300mm long. Will do me for quite a while at current rate!

I have seen it used for 25mm scale ECW pikes- good lateral application  :)
